摘要: An apparatus and embodiments of a method for using the apparatus to evaluate crop lodging resistance are disclosed. An exemplary apparatus includes a body having a height adjustable force bar coupled thereto and a force sensor configured to detect forces acting on the force bar. Further, the apparatus includes or is configured to be coupled to a movement mechanism that enables movement of the force bar through a plot of stems. The force sensor generates force signals that can be utilized to generate force data. The force data, along with stem density data, stem height data, force bar height data, can be input into one or more models to generate flexural stiffness data. The one or more models can include an Interacting Model and/or a Non-Interacting Model.

摘要: An electrochemical deposition system—for the electrochemical deposition of a metal-based material (e.g., aluminum or an aluminum alloy)—comprises an electrolyte solution, at least one working electrode, and at least one counter electrode. The electrolyte solution comprises at least one imidazolium-based tetrahalo-metallate compound (e.g., alkyl methylimidazolium tetrachloroaluminate(s)) and at least one metal-containing compound (e.g., AlCl3, AlBr3) of a metal of the metal-based material to be electrodeposited on the at least one working electrode. The working electrode is configured to be exposed to the electrolyte solution. The at least one counter electrode is in contact with the electrolyte solution. In some embodiments, the system is configured for additive manufacturing of the metal-based material being electrochemically deposited. Related methods are also disclosed.

摘要: Certain disclosed method embodiments concern performing a stalk puncture test to determine force and displacement data. Plant features, such as rind thickness, stalk radius, stalk diameter, section modulus and/or integrative puncture score, primarily applicable to corn, sorghum, sunflower, wheat or rice, can be calculated using the force and displacement data. The calculated plant features are used to select plants for selective breeding to produce lodging-resistant crop hybrids. The present invention also provides embodiments of a hand-held puncture device that can be used to practice disclosed method embodiments.
