    摘要: An artificial urethral valve for implantation in the bladder or urethra of an incontinent person comprising a movable valve occluding means which is retained in the closed position by means of a spring that requires a relatively high opening force and then substantially collapses to allow the passage of bladder contents through the valve. The valve occluding member retaining spring requires a relatively high breakaway or opening force to open. Thereafter the normal outflow of bladder contents through the valve is sufficient to substantially keep the valve open. After the contents of the bladder have been voluntarily evacuated, the valve occluding member is automatically returned to the valve seat to again close the valve to a leakproof seal.

    摘要: A probe device for use with stress-measuring apparatus and having plural probes provided with mutually and, in one form of the invention, variably spaced tips. These tips preferably comprise parallel, chisel-contact tips. Transducers such as piezoelectric crystals are respectively operatively associated with said tips, with the intercoupling areas of the crystals and coaxial cable conductors coupled thereto being constructed to provide maximum shielding of such areas against external electromagnetic-wave or other interference. The rearward face of each crystal is connected by highly flexible conductor means to the central conductors of the coaxial cables. The forward faces of the respective crystals are preferably grounded through the tips and the jackets electrically connected thereto to the coaxial shields of the cables. Central members or plugs are employed to connect the shield to its respective jacket and at the same time isolate the crystal-connector junction areas.

    摘要: An artificial kidney system includes a dialyzer element through which blood of a patient and dialysate solution are circulated to enable transfer of waste, electrolytes, water and other components from the blood to the solution (and in some cases from the solution to the blood), blood pump and circulation apparatus for withdrawing blood from the patient and applying it to the dialyzer element and for returning blood from the dialyzer element to the patient, and dialysate pump and circulation apparatus for transporting dialysate solution from a dialysate source to the dialyzer element and from the dialyzer element to a dialysate sink. The blood and the dialysate pump apparatus each includes a flexible casing which, when compressed, forces fluid from the casing and which, when released, draws fluid into the casing. The dialysate circulation apparatus includes a variable volume accumulator jacket for receiving dialysate solution when the pump casing is compressed and for discharging dialysate solution when the pump casing is released. A pump actuator operates the blood pump apparatus and the dialysate pump apparatus to circulate blood and dialysate solution through the dialyzer element.
