摘要: Catalytic elements are usable in waste gas control processes. The catalytic elements include an open inlet into a hollow body and a closed end thereby forcing fluid or gas through a porous catalytic layer of the element. The catalytic layer includes inorganic fibers and a catalyst disposed on or incorporated into the fibers. The catalytic element also includes an inductive heater disposed therein and a conductive layer about the inductive heater to transfer heat to the catalyst and fluid or gas.

摘要: A method of agglomerating bulk ceramic fibers includes mixing the bulk ceramic fibers with water to form wet fibers; mixing the wet fibers with a binder including an organic binder and/or an inorganic binder to form agglomerates; and drying the agglomerates. The agglomerates may be mixed with additional binders and fillers to form an insulating mix that may be used to insulate a furnace or other heat source. A foaming nozzle may be used for the application of agglomerates. A foaming agent and water are air atomized within the foaming nozzle and the resulting foam is mixed into pneumatically conveyed agglomerates, which result results in a lightweight refractory material layer on a target substrate.

摘要: Methods of providing a homogeneous or uniform catalytic coating on an inorganic fiber substrate include using a vacuum to coat the substrate, improved coating solutions or mixtures and/or drying methods to prevent migration of metal catalyst precursors to the exterior surfaces and edges of the inorganic fiber substrate. The methods may include adding a component to the first coating solution or mixture before coating the inorganic fiber substrate; applying a second coating solution or mixture to the coated inorganic fiber substrate; drying the coated inorganic fiber substrate at ambient conditions, under controlled conditions, or with microwave radiation; or optimizing an amount of a salt, water, or an organic solvent in the coating solution.

摘要: A composite fiber includes a porous silicon phase including elemental silicon and a porous carbon phase including elemental carbon. The silicon phase and the carbon phase form an intertwined network structure in the composite fiber such that each of the silicon phase and the carbon phase is interconnected and continuous throughout the composite fiber. The silicon phase and the carbon phase together constitute at least 50 percent by weight of the composite fiber.

摘要: An inorganic fiber containing silica, alumina, one or more alkali metal oxides, and one or more of alkaline earth metal oxides, transition metal oxides, or lanthanide series metal oxides. The inorganic fiber exhibits good thermal performance at use temperatures of 1260° C. and greater, retains mechanical integrity after exposure to the use temperatures, is free of crystalline silica upon devitrification, is alkali flux resistant, exhibits low bio-persistence in an acidic medium, and exhibits low dissolution in a neutral medium. Also provided are thermal insulation products incorporating the inorganic fibers, a method for preparing the inorganic fiber and a method of thermally insulating articles using thermal insulation prepared from the inorganic fibers.

摘要: An inorganic fiber containing a fiberization product of a compound comprising at least one alkaline earth silicate, at least one compound containing an element from group VII and/or IX of the periodic table, and optionally alumina and/or boria. The inclusion of a suitable amount of at least one compound containing an element from group VII and/or IX of the periodic table of elements to an alkaline-earth silicate inorganic fiber reduces fiber shrinkage, decreases biopersistence in physiological solutions, and enhances mechanical strength beyond that of alkaline earth silicate fibers without the presence of the at least one compound containing an element from group VII and/or IX. Also provided are methods of preparing the inorganic fiber and of thermally insulating articles using thermal insulation prepared from the inorganic fibers.

摘要: A method of treating tough inorganic fiber bundles including opening a plurality of the tough inorganic fiber bundles such that tough inorganic fibers can be dispersed in a liquid slurry to lay down a homogenous fiber aggregate, wherein the tough inorganic fibers have a crush settle volume of greater than 250 ml, optionally greater than 450 ml. Also, a method of treating tough inorganic fiber bundles including dispersing a plurality of the tough inorganic fiber bundles in a slurry with a dilution of about 0.1% to about 2%, optionally about 0.1% to about 1%, effective to lay down a homogenous fiber aggregate, wherein the tough inorganic fibers have a crush settle volume of greater than 250 ml, optionally greater than 450 ml.

摘要: An inorganic platelet composition for use as thermal and/or electrical insulation and fire protection for electrochemical cells such as lithium ion cells. The inorganic platelet composition may be located on individual battery cells, within the interstitial spaces of adjacent battery cells and/or between modules of battery cells in a larger battery pack. The inorganic platelet composition prevents thermal runaway that may occur in one cell or modules of cells from propagating to adjacent or nearby cells or modules within the battery pack.
