    摘要: A continuously variable displacement engine has a plurality of pistons received in a cylinder block and connected to a nutator. A crankshaft with an axis of rotation is carried in a crankcase and incorporates an upper journal with a first angle relative to the axis and a lower journal with a second angle with respect to the axis. A first slider ball is engaged on the upper journal and a second slider ball engaged on the lower journal. A carrier assembly captures the first and second slider balls and incorporates an actuating cylinder. An actuation piston assembly is translatably carried in the actuating cylinder and connected to the crankshaft intermediate the upper journal and lower journal. The actuating piston is controllably translated between a first high eccentricity position and second low eccentricity position. An anti-rotational assembly connects the nutator to a piston case. A balance mechanism is adapted to change the amount of counterbalance for the nutator and the axial location of the counterbalance consistent with eccentricity of the nutator.

    摘要: A cooling air flow regulating device for controlling the flow of cooling air to an air bearing may comprise a housing with a piston and a spring disposed within. When the pressure of the cooling air is high, the piston is forced out of the path of the cooling air and into an open position. As the pressure of the cooling air decreases, the spring forces the piston back into the path of the cooling air, effectively blocking the flow of cooling air to the air bearing. The cooling air flow regulating device of the present invention may be useful for controlling the cooling of air bearings in turbochargers of turbocharged engine, where at low engine speed, cooling air is not required for air bearings. Methods for using the cooling air flow regulating device of the present invention are also provided.

    摘要: Turbochargers of this invention comprise a turbine housing and a turbine wheel rotatably disposed therein. A center housing is connected to the turbine housing, and a compressor housing is attached to the center housing. A compressor is rotatably disposed within the compressor housing, and comprises two impellers placed in back-to-back orientation. A movable member is disposed within the compressor housing to downstream of the compressor to control the flow of air within the compressor housing. The position of the movable member can be operated to control the amount of pressurized air that is produced by one of the compressor impellers to provide enhanced compressor operating efficiency throughout the operating range and mass flow requirements of the engine.

    摘要: A low speed high pressure ration turbocharger incorporates a compressor impeller having impeller blades for a first stage of compression mounted on a first side of the wheel and impeller blades for a second stage of compression mounted on a second side of the wheel. Driving the dual sided compressor impeller on a common shaft from the turbine wheel allows reduction in rotational speeds while increasing compression ratio of the turbine. The scroll inlet and outlet volute for the second stage inducer are integrated with the compressor housing or other portions of the turbocharger case for compact packaging.
