Abstract:
Disclosed are two system devices for stratified injecting the recirculated exhaust gas and high-specific-heat-capacity or inert gas for clean combustion of an internal combustion engine. The former is composed of an exhaust gas recirculation system, an injection system, and a power system. The latter is composed of four parts, and a high-specific-heat-capacity gas or inert gas channel is added. Injectors can be arranged at any position in the cylinder between a top dead center and a bottom dead center of a piston in a cylinder; 1-3 layers of injectors can be arranged; and 2-6 injectors can be arranged on each layer. Gas participating in combustion enters the cylinder from two intake channels, namely, a scavenging port of the internal combustion engine and the injectors; an in-cylinder swirl ratio can be remarkably increased through kinetic energy carried by the gas; and fuel-gas mixing is promoted, and the combustion rate is increased.
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine system includes a first EGR valve to control flow in a first flow path, and a second EGR valve to control flow in a second flow path. A temperature sensor is disposed in the exhaust gas feedstream upstream of the exhaust purifying device, and a controller is in communication with the internal combustion engine and the temperature sensor and is operatively connected to the first and second EGR valves. The controller executes a routine to monitor the temperature of the exhaust gas feedstream upstream of the exhaust purifying device and control the first valve to control flow of exhaust gas to the air intake system via the first flow path and control the second valve to control flow of exhaust gas to the air intake system via the second flow path based upon the temperature of the exhaust gas feedstream upstream of the exhaust purifying device.
Abstract:
Various methods and systems are provided for diagnosing a condition of a component in an exhaust gas recirculation system. In one example, a method includes selectively routing exhaust from a first subset of engine cylinders to an exhaust passage via a first valve and to an intake passage via a second valve and determining a respective condition of each of the first valve and second valve based on a first exhaust pressure of the first subset of engine cylinders and a second exhaust pressure of a second subset of engine cylinders.
Abstract:
A drop-in cartridge style, four-chamber EGR valve, includes a valve actuator, a valve stem extending from the valve actuator and having two valve heads mutually spaced on the stem, and a frame having a plurality of longitudinally extending members connected by at least first and second ring members, the frame being divided along a longitudinal axis into two mating parts.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a valve (10) able to control an exhaust gas recirculation system of an internal combustion engine (1) equipped with a turbine (7) installed in an exhaust circuit (3) of the internal combustion engine (1), said valve comprising a body (11) through which a first stream (12) of exhaust gas tapped off upstream of the turbine (7) can flow and through which a second stream (13) of exhaust gas tapped off downstream of the turbine (7) can flow, said valve being configured to control the flow of the first and second streams of exhaust gas through said body (11).
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for a boosted engine having a split intake system coupled to a split exhaust system. Aircharges of differing composition, pressure, and temperature may be delivered to the engine through the split intake system at different points of an engine cycle. In this way, boost and EGR benefits may be extended.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for selecting a group of cylinders for selective deactivation, in a variable displacement engine system, based at least on a regeneration state of an exhaust catalyst. The position of one or more valves and throttles may be adjusted based on the selective deactivation to reduce back-flow through the disabled cylinders while also maintaining conditions of a downstream exhaust catalyst. Pre-ignition and knock detection windows and thresholds may also be adjusted based on the deactivation to improve the efficiency of knock and pre-ignition detection.

Abstract:
An internal combustion engine has a high-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation line and a low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation line with a low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation valve. The low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation line branches off from the exhaust-gas system downstream of a turbine of an exhaust-gas turbocharger and opens into a fresh-air system upstream of a compressor of the exhaust-gas turbocharger. An exhaust-gas flap is disposed in the exhaust-gas system downstream from where the low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation line branches off from the exhaust-gas system. At least one pressure sensor is disposed in the low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation line and configured such that the at least one pressure sensor determines a pressure difference in the low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation line between a point upstream of the low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation valve and a point downstream of the low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation valve. A method for operating an internal combustion engine is also provided.
