Abstract:
A kit and methods for delivering an effective amount of a labile active to the skin are provided. The kit and methods comprise a composition comprising an effective amount of a labile active agent incorporated into a water-soluble polymeric film and an additive composition capable of dissolving the water-soluble polymeric film.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a sunscreen composition for topical application to the skin comprising a fluororesin having a submicron in combination with a sunscreen agent and an oil component. These compositions provide a boost in the SPF value of the composition. The invention also provides methods relating to the use of these compositions for boosting the SPF and decreasing the irritation on the skin caused by irritating sunscreen agents.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a system that is self-foaming. The self-foaming system has at least two components that are maintained in separate containers. The components produce carbon dioxide when they commingle with each other upon being dispensed from their individual containers. The components are stored separately by being partitioned in separate containers or a container having a chamber for each of the components. The self-foaming system of the present invention has cleansing and cooling properties. The system is mild yet non-irritating because it cools and cleans deeply without interfering with the natural barriers of the skin.
Abstract:
Disclosed are skin smoothing compositions containing hydroxyacids or hydroxyacid derivatives, a polymeric film-forming agent, a physical exfoliant, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Also disclosed are methods for using the skin smoothing compositions to improve the smoothness of human skin.
Abstract:
Stable, sprayable compositions suitable for topical application to human skin or hair are provided, along with a method for their preparation. The compositions comprise water-in-oil emulsions and a variety of substantially insoluble dispersed powder. The compositions are useful for applying color to human skin or hair, for protecting human skin from ultraviolet radiation, and for treating human skin or hair with a dermatologically active agent. The compositions have unique suspending power, stability and dispersibility for water-in-oil emulsions.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a self-tanning composition comprising an effective amount of DHA in combination with an effective amount of a long-chain alpha hydroxy acid(AHA). In a preferred embodiment, the AHA is .alpha.-hydroxy lauric acid.
Abstract:
The present invention provides novel cosmetic compositions for artificially tanning the skin utilizing skin tanning agents and cyclodextrins. The compositions are exceptionally stable and reduce the odor associated with the reaction between skin tanning agents such as dihydroxyacetone and the skin.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of sustaining the rate of heat felt on the skin as a result of an exothermic reaction between a combination of an unencapsulated and an encapsulated catalase, and peroxide. The catalase component provides a sustained heat release and in combination with other non-catalase heat-generating agents, the rate of heat released and felt on the skin can be further controlled. The compositions of the present invention also soften the skin and contribute to the health of the skin by reducing the presence of oxygen free radicals on the skin surface.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a cosmetic or pharmaceutical clear water-in-oil emulsion, comprising a water droplet phase dispersed in an oil phase, the average droplet size being no greater than about 1&mgr;, the refractive indices of the oil and water phases being matched to within 3 parts in 10,000.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a topical or cosmetic system that includes a first element capable of acting as an electron donor and a second element capable of acting as an electron acceptor. Such first and second elements are spaced apart by a predetermined distance across a skin surface. The system also includes a third element extending over the predetermined distance across the skin surface, while the third element contains an electrically conductive medium for electrically connecting the first and second elements, thereby generating an electrical current that flows across the skin surface from the first element through the conductive medium to the second element in the absence of any power source. The present invention also relates to methods of using the above-described system for preventing or treating skin damage.
