Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a multilayer or a monolayer plastic container is disclosed. The container has a barrier layer manufactured from (i) a polyester resin, preferably an aromatic polyester resin such as a polyethylene terephthalate, (ii) a polyamide material, preferably an aromatic polyamide material, and (iii) an oxygen scavenging material, preferably a transition method. The present invention also provides containers having a multilayer or a monolayer body. In the preparation of the barrier layer. a preform first is prepared by an injection-molding process wherein a preblend containing a diluent polyester, polyamide material, and an oxygen scavenging material is added to a base polyester during the injection molding process. The preform then is expanded to form a container.
Abstract:
A polymer and coating composition containing the polymer are provided that are useful in coating applications such as, for example, food or beverage packaging containers. The polymer preferably includes a backbone having one or more polycyclic groups. In one embodiment, the polymer is a polyester and, more preferably, a polyester-urethane polymer. In one embodiment, the one or more polycyclic groups is a tricyclic or higher group.
Abstract:
A polymer with a backbone and an unsaturated side chain attached to the backbone. The polymer may optionally be combined with an oxidation catalyst and/or other ingredients.
Abstract:
Provided are compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic group, a hetero-aliphatic group, an aromatic group, and a heterocyclic group, provided that R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may together form a divalent radical selected from the group consisting of an aliphatic radical and hetero-aliphatic group;each R.sup.3 is independently selected from the group consisting of an aliphatic group, a hetero-aliphatic group, an aromatic group, and a heterocyclic group;R.sup.4 is selected from the group consisting of an aliphatic group, a hetero-aliphatic group, an aromatic group, and a heterocyclic group; andn is an integer from 0 to 5.Also provided are polymerizable compositions containing such compounds and a method of coating a substrate which uses such polymerizable compositions.
Abstract:
A process for repulping wet-strength paper containing at least one wet-strength resin in which a hydroperoxide alone or in combination with a non-alkali, non-alkaline earth metal salt or chelate is used to separate the resin from the wet-strength paper.

Abstract:
The present invention provides compositions useful as a barrier layer in, for example, packaging products. The compositions generally comprise a blend of (i) a polyester resin, preferably an aromatic polyester resin such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and (ii) a polyamide material (e.g., MXD6). The blend optionally may further comprise (iii) an oxygen scavenging material. The present invention also provides containers (e.g., containers formed by expansion of preforms) having a multilayered body-forming portion including: a core layer comprising the aforementioned blend; and inner and outer layers of a formable polymer composition. The present invention also provides methods of making such containers.

A polymer and coating compositions containing the polymer are provided that are useful in coating applications such as, for example, food or beverage packaging coatings. The polymer preferably includes a polyester backbone and at least one deblockable isocyanate group attached to the backbone. In one embodiment, the polymer includes a polyester-carbamate backbone, one or more pendant deblockable isocyanate groups, and one or more terminal or pendant isocyanate-reactive groups. The deblockable isocyanate groups may be provided, for example, through use of a partially blocked polyisocyanate.

The present invention provides compositions useful as a barrier layer in, for example, packaging products. The compositions generally comprise a blend of (i) a polyester material, preferably an aromatic polyester resin such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and (ii) a vinyl alcohol material. The blend optionally may further comprise (iii) a polyolefin material (preferably a functionalized polyolefin material, e.g., a BYNEL material); and/or (iv) a polyamide material (preferably an amorphous polyamide material, e.g., a GRIVORY material), that optionally further comprises an oxygen scavenging material. The present invention also provides containers (e.g., containers formed by expansion of preforms) having a multilayered body-forming portion including: a core layer comprising the aforementioned blend, and inner and outer layers of a formable polymer composition. The present invention also provides methods of making such containers.
