Abstract:
A process is described for the preparation of an alkali metal formyl acetic acid alkyl ester by reaction of acetic acid alkyl ester, an alkali-metal alcoholate and carbon monoxide at elevated pressure and elevated temperature, the improvement wherein an excess of acetic acid alkyl ester referred to the alkali-metal alcoholate is employed and the reaction is carried out in the absence of a solvent.
Abstract:
Improvement in the process of producing carboxylic acid esters or salts involving contacting a halogen alkyl compound with carbon monoxide and a basic substance in the presence of a carbonylation catalyst for carbonylation of the halogen alkyl and production of the corresponding ester or salt of the basic substance. The improvement involves performing the contacting in a reaction vessel, circulating a liquid mass of the halogen alkyl, basic substance and carbonylation catalyst through the vessel and maintaining a carbon monoxide atmosphere in the vessel, injecting the circulating liquid mass into the vessel with a nozzle to spray the liquid mass into the vessel and intimately mixing the liquid mass with carbon monoxide in the nozzle for injection of carbon monoxide into the vessel with the sprayed liquid mass.
Abstract:
New process for making esters of .alpha.-hydroxymethylene arylacetic acid from the corresponding arylacetic acid ester by conversion with an alkali alcoholate and carbon monoxide. The resulting hydroxy methylene compound can be obtained from the resulting alkali salt by release with an acid.
Abstract:
A method for the preparation of optionally substituted arylpyruvic acids by reaction of optionally substituted arylmethylhalides with carbon monoxide in the presence of a metal carbonyl compound and a base is disclosed wherein the base is an alkali metal hydroxide, the process is carried out at a temperature of -10.degree. to +70.degree. C. in the presence of an alcohol or cyclic ether.
Abstract:
Production of malonic acid dialkyl esters by reacting halogen acetic acid alkyl ester with carbon monoxide, and alkali metal alcoholate, alkaline earth metal alcoholate or a solution of alkali metal hydroxide in an alcohol at a pH of up to 8.5 in the presence of a cobalt compound which is a catalyst for the reaction.
Abstract:
Butyric acid esters of the formula: ##EQU1## wherein each R is alkyl, alkyl having an alkoxy substituent, or cycloalkyl, and the R's are the same. The esters are prepared by contacting an allyl halide with carbon monoxide, an alcohol of the formula ROH wherein R is as above, and an alkali alcoholate of the same alcohol, in the presence of a catalyst for the reaction at a pH of 10-14. The esters are useful as solvents for polymers and as plasticizers.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for the preparation of 3-aminoacrylic acid esters by the addition of a beta-hydroxyacrylic acid esters to an aqueous solution of an amine salt.
Abstract:
From reaction solutions of carboxylic acids prepared by carbonylation with the aid of cobalt carbonyl catalysts, the cobalt of the catalyst is precipitated by the addition of at least equivalent amounts of monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acids and neutralization with alkaline agents, in the form of a cobalt(II) salt of the added acid, and the carboxylic acid is completely recovered from the reaction solution by acidification.
Abstract:
Production of malonic acid dialkyl esters by reacting halogen acetic acid alkyl ester with carbon monoxide, and alkali alcoholate, alkali earth alcoholate or a solution of alkali hydroxide in an alcohol at a pH of up to 8.5 in the presence of a cobalt compound which is a catalyst for the reaction.
Abstract:
A process for the recovery of cobalt from residues and/or wastes containing the same by converting the cobalt to cobalt oxide. Disclosed herein is a process for recovering cobalt values from cobalt-containing residues by heating the cobalt in the presence of air to form cobalt oxide which can be separated readily from water-soluble salts which may be present therewith.
