摘要: A lossless coding mode is proposed in a video coding system comprising a plurality of coding tools, some being lossy by design, some of which can be adapted to become lossless or near lossless. To enable a lossless mode in such system, it is proposed to disable the tools that are lossy by design and use only lossless tools, to adapt some tools to enable lossless coding, and adapt some tools to enable near-lossless coding so that a secondary lossless coding may be applied after residual coding. In some embodiments, a type of residual coding is determined by, when an information indicates that a transform skip residual coding is used, obtaining a flag representative of a special mode, and when this flag is true, determine that regular residual coding must be used instead of the transform skip residual coding that should be used.

摘要: Some series of ABT split are normatively forbidden in order to limit the number of allowed series of splits, in a way that refines the trade-offs between the amount of allowed split series and the compression efficiency. In particular, a reduced combinatory in terms of allowed split series leads to reduced encoder-side complexity, in the rate distortion search for the best block partitioning. The normative split restrictions provide that when successively using horizontal or vertical then vertical or horizontal asymmetric splits, the considered succession of two splits leads to isolating the sub-area of the input block that is three-fourths the size of the parent block in width and height. Additional embodiments condition allowed splits on transform size, block size, and temporal layer of the slice and slice type.

摘要: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed for performing overlapped block motion compensation (OBMC). OBMC may be performed by considering sub-blocks within a coding block as an entire block if a motion field is uniform. OBMC may be performed on a coding block partitioned into multiple sub-blocks, using a block-based OBMC approach. The sub-blocks may be determined to have the same motion field, if the affine model associated with the block is translational. OBMC may be performed by subtracting OBMC from an original picture in the merge modes, using a block-based approach. A block coded in OBMC mode may be used in motion compensation, for example a fast merge pass of merge mode(s). The top band and the left band of the block may be subtracted from the input signal associated with the current block, and motion compensation may be performed on the block having the top and left bands subtracted.
