Abstract: Embodiments include systems and methods of performing intra-prediction using enhanced interpolation filters, including applying variable types and degrees of smoothing based on information such as block size, intra-prediction mode. An encoder or decoder may determine an intra-prediction mode for predicting a block of video data and determine a type of smoothing filter to use for the block of video data. The type of the smoothing filter to be used for performing intra-prediction for the block may be determined based on comparing at least one of a width of the block of video data and a height of the block of video data to a threshold.

Abstract: An encoding device evaluates a plurality of processing and/or post-processing algorithms and/or methods to be applied to a video stream, and signals a selected method, algorithm, class or category of methods/algorithms either in an encoded bitstream or as side information related to the encoded bitstream. A decoding device or post-processor utilizes the signaled algorithm or selects an algorithm/method based on the signaled method or algorithm. The selection is based, for example, on availability of the algorithm/method at the decoder/post-processor and/or cost of implementation. The video stream may comprise, for example, downsampled multiplexed stereoscopic images and the selected algorithm May include any of upconversion and/or error correction techniques that contribute to a restoration of the downsampled images.

Abstract: A filter with a central symmetric shape is applied to a current block. The filter includes a plurality of coefficients. Each of the plurality of coefficients is associated with a respective first coordinate value along a first axis and a respective second coordinate value along a second axis. The plurality of coefficients of the filter is grouped into a plurality of groups based on a transposition operation to be performed on the filter. The coefficients in each of the plurality of groups is a same distance from a center position of the filter. The coefficients of a first group of the plurality of groups are reordered based on the transposition operation. Filtered samples of the current block are reconstructed by applying the filter with the central symmetric shape to the current block based on the reordered coefficients of the filter.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are a video processing method, apparatus and storage medium using the resolution of a reference picture. Filtering is performed based on resolutions of reference pictures of blocks forming a boundary. The resolutions of the reference pictures may define filtering. Depending on whether the resolutions of the reference pictures are different from each other, one or more filter selection parameters for filtering may be determined or updated. Further, based on whether the resolutions of the reference pictures are different from each other, the boundary strength of the filter may be determined. Because filtering is defined using the resolutions of reference pictures, performance of encoding and/or decoding may be improved.

Abstract: There is provided a method, performed by a temporal filter. The method comprises obtaining a current picture and a set of one or more neighbor pictures comprising a first neighbor picture, wherein each of the one or more neighbor pictures either precedes or follows the current picture in a picture count order. The method comprises, based on a first block of pixel values of the current picture and a first block of pixel values in the first neighbor picture, determining a first filter weight, W1, for at least a first pixel value in the first block of pixel values of the current picture, wherein the first block of pixel values in the first neighbor picture correspond to the first block of pixel values in the current picture. The method comprises, calculating a first filtered pixel value, Pf1, at least using as inputs to the calculation: W1, P1, and Pr1, where PI is the first pixel value from the first block of pixel values of the current picture, and Pr1 is a pixel value from the first neighbor picture that corresponds to the first pixel value.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method of encoding a division block in video encoding and a method of decoding a division block in video decoding. An input picture is divided into encoding unit blocks. The encoding unit blocks are divided into sub-blocks. The sub-blocks are encoded by selectively using at least one of intra prediction encoding and inter prediction encoding. A decoding process is performed through a reverse process of the encoding method. When pixel values of an encoding unit block are encoded in video encoding, the flexibility in selecting an encoding mode is increased and the efficiency of encoding is increased.

Abstract: Embodiments feature families of rate allocation and rate control methods that utilize advanced processing of past and future frame/field picture statistics and are designed to operate with one or more coding passes. At least two method families include: a family of methods for a rate allocation with picture look-ahead; and a family of methods for average bit rate (ABR) control methods. At least two other methods for each method family are described. For the first family of methods, some methods may involve intra rate control. For the second family of methods, some methods may involve high complexity ABR control and/or low complexity ABR control. These and other embodiments can involve any of the following: spatial coding parameter adaptation, coding prediction, complexity processing, complexity estimation, complexity filtering, bit rate considerations, quality considerations, coding parameter allocation, and/or hierarchical prediction structures, among others.
