摘要:
Methods and apparatuses are provided for performing optical imaging on a sample. The method and apparatuses continually adjust the path-length of a reference arm or data acquisition in a manner such that imaging information is obtained only from a longitudinal range that contains a selective portion of a sample from which imaging information is to be obtained. The apparatuses include a starting point adjustment device that determines a point with respect to a sample at which imaging information collection is to be started. A controller then controls a second scanning mechanism, in addition to a first scanning mechanism, such that imaging information is obtained only from a longitudinal range that contains a selective portion of a sample from which imaging information is to be obtained. In this way, the amount of data collected can be reduced to that within the area of interest.

In part, the invention relates to a lens assembly. The lens assembly includes a micro-lens; a beam director in optical communication with the micro-lens; and a substantially transparent film. The substantially transparent film is capable of bi-directionally transmitting light, and generating a controlled amount of backscatter. In addition, the film surrounds a portion of the beam director.

In one aspect, the invention relates to a computer-implemented method of triggering optical coherence tomography data collection. The method includes collecting optical coherence tomography data with respect to a vessel using an optical coherence tomography probe disposed in the vessel; determining a clearing radius and a quality value for each frame of optical coherence tomography data collected for the vessel using a computer; determining if a blood clearing state has occurred using at least one clearing radius and at least one quality value; and generating a trigger signal in response to the blood clearing state.

Optical probes having a diameter less than substantially 500 μm for use in scanning light from a long, highly flexible fiber to a sample. In one embodiment the probe includes a viscous damping fluid suitable to prevent non-uniform rotational distortion (NURD).

Ultra-small optical probes comprising a single-mode optical fiber and a lens which has substantially the same diameter as the optical fiber. The optical fiber and lens are positioned in a probe housing which is in the form of an insertional medical device such as a guidewire. Connector elements are provided to facilitate the attachment of the probe to an optical system and the quick disconnection of the probe from the optical system. The probe is used to obtain optical measurements in situ in the body of an organism and can be used to guide interventional procedures by a surgeon.

Embodiments of the present invention are method and apparatus for simply and economically providing efficient scanning in an optical coherence tomography ("OCT") apparatus. In particular, an embodiment of the present invention is an OCT apparatus which examines an object, which OCT apparatus comprises: (a) a source of short coherence radiation; (b) a coupler which (i) couples a first portion of the radiation to a reference arm; (ii) couples a second portion of the radiation to a sample arm; (iii) combines radiation transmitted thereto from the reference path and the sample path; and (iv) couples the combined radiation to an analyzer; wherein (c) the reference arm transmits the first portion of the radiation to a measurement range variation apparatus and transmits radiation output from the measurement range variation apparatus back to the coupler; (d) the sample path transmits the second portion of the radiation to the object and transmits radiation scattered by the object back to the coupler; and (e) the measurement range variation apparatus comprises: (i) a transmitter which transmits a portion of the radiation incident thereupon; (ii) a reflector which reflects radiation transmitted by the transmitter; and (iii) a scanner coupled to scan the reflector.

An embodiment of the present invention is a refractively corrected, wavelength selective, transparent visual field test occluder for a non-tested eye used in a visual field testing apparatus which uses a stimulus that produces light in a first color spectral range and a background illumination that produces light in a second color spectral range, the visual field test occluder comprising: (a) a base; (b) a fastener configured to fasten the base over a subject's eye; (c) a mounting affixed to the base configured to hold a filter and a refractive lens; and (d) a filter held in the mounting; wherein the filter substantially prevents transmission of light in the first color spectral range and substantially transmits light in the second color spectral range.
