    摘要: Techniques and tools for selecting search ranges and/or motion vector ranges during motion estimation are described. For example, a video encoder performs motion estimation constrained by a first search range, which results in multiple motion vectors. The encoder computes motion vector distribution information for the motion vectors. To compute the distribution information, the encoder can track the motion vectors in a histogram and count how many of the motion vectors fall within each of multiple intervals for the distribution information. The encoder then selects a second search range and performs motion estimation constrained by the second search range. Selecting the second search range can include selecting a motion vector range, which in some cases in effect determines the second search range.

    摘要: A computer includes an application system, a storage device and a basic input output system (BIOS). The application system can be respectively coupled to the storage device and the BIOS, set at least a multimedia file as a preset playing file according to an input instruction and store the preset playing file into the storage device. The application system can further generate a log file according to the input instruction and the storage position of the preset playing file, wherein the log file is sent to the BIOS. The BIOS has a file access module, so that the BIOS can acquire the preset playing file from the storage device according to the log file for playing during booting the computer.

    摘要: At high bit rates, the reconstruction error of compressed video is generally proportional to the squared value of quantization step size, such that full quantization step size increments at high bit rates can lead to significant change in the reconstruction error and/or bit rate of the compressed video. A video codec uses fractional increments of quantization step size at high bit rates to permit a more continuous variation of quality and/or bit rate as the quantization scale changes. For high bit rate scenarios, the bit stream syntax includes an additional syntax element to specify fractional step increments (e.g., half step) of the normal quantizer scale step sizes.

    摘要: Techniques and tools for encoding and decoding a block of frequency coefficients are presented. An encoder selects a scan order from multiple available scan orders and then applies the selected scan order to a two-dimensional matrix of transform coefficients, grouping non-zero values of the frequency coefficients together in a one-dimensional string. The encoder entropy encodes the one-dimensional string of coefficient values according to a multi-level nested set representation. In decoding, a decoder entropy decodes the one-dimensional string of coefficient values from the multi-level nested set representation. The decoder selects the scan order from among multiple available scan orders and then reorders the coefficients back into a two-dimensional matrix using the selected scan order.
