Abstract:
The invention provides a new system and method for imaging a specimen. The system projects a three-dimensional crystalline pattern of light, a tessellation, and records the specimen's emitted light at locations where a portion of the specimen coincides with the pattern.
Abstract:
Improved methods and systems for imaging are provided. Specifically, systems and methods for extending the range of a digital zoom are provided in which an imaging system provides continuous magnification over a plurality of interleaved optical pathways and digital zooming imagers. Systems and methods of centering an image as the field of view changes, and for masking out undesirable obstacles from a magnified image are also provided.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for operating a remotely operable lock. In an example embodiment, a method comprises authenticating, at a web service, credentials received from a portable electronic device, detecting the proximity of the portable electronic device to the lock, and issuing a command for receipt by the lock from the web service or portable electronic device.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for operating a remotely operable lock. In an example embodiment, a method comprises receiving credentials at a web service from a portable electronic device, authenticating the credentials, and based on a successful authentication, issuing a command for receipt by the lock from the web service or the portable electronic device.
Abstract:
Some configurations of the present invention provide a method for reducing eye fatigue that includes adjusting an intensity of an essentially white light source behind a display device to set an ambient light level in a room behind the display device, and adjusting an intensity of a blue light source disposed beside the display device to dilate pupils of the eyes of a viewer of the display device.
Abstract:
A downhole tool includes a device to be activated by electrical energy and a micro-switch that includes conductors and an element between the first and second conductors selected from the group consisting of: a dielectric element capable of being modulated to provide a conductive path in response to receipt of electrical energy; and an element moveable in response to application of an electrical energy. The micro-switch may be formed of microelectromechanical system (MEMS) technology or microelectronics technology.
Abstract:
An apparatus for the purification of catalytic cracking gasolines containing dienic and/or acetylenic impurities, and mercaptans, said apparatus comprising at least one selective hydrogenation reactor 3 containing at least one fixed catalyst bed, and having at least one line 1 for introducing a feed, at least one effluent outlet line, and a line supplying hydrogen to the reactor, said reactor being followed by at least one stabilization drum 4 connected to said effluent outlet line, the drum having at least one gas outlet line 5 and at least one stabilized effluent outlet line, and said effluent passing into at least one sweetening reactor 8 comprising at least one effluent inlet line 6 and at least one effluent outlet line, said reactor having close thereto at least one oxidizing agent supply line, said apparatus also comprising at least one drum 9 for degassing the effluent from the sweetening reactor 8, said drum 9 having at least one gas outlet line and at least one outlet line 11 for dedienized, stabilized and sweetened gasoline.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for configuring an ultrasound imaging system at a remote location by obtaining an encrypted feature key from a central location (e.g., via telephone) and then inputting that feature key into the ultrasound imaging system using an operator interface (e.g., a keyboard). To validate the feature key, the ultrasound imaging system decrypts the encrypted data and then compares the decrypted data to validation data pre-stored in the system. If the decrypted data matches the validation data, then the optional feature identified by the feature key will be enabled each time the system is booted or initialized. Optionally, an expiration date can be associated with the activated option, after which date the feature will be disabled when the system is initialized. Similarly, an activated optional feature can be disabled at a remote location by the input of an encrypted key obtained from a central location.
Abstract:
Device and application thereof for distributing a multiphase mixture having at least one gas phase including, e.g., hydrogen in part and at least one liquid phase, the mixture being in a downward flow through at least one bed of granular solids, the device including, at least one distributor plate located above one of the beds of granular solids at a distance "d", and several mixing channels of the liquid and gas phases of the mixture. Each of the channels has at least one upper passage section and at least one lower passage section allowing communication between the mixture formed in the mixing channels with a bed of granular solids. The mixing channels are provided on at least part of their height with one or more lateral passage sections, the upper passage section allowing the majority of the gas phase of the mixture to pass and the lateral passage sections allowing passage of the liquid phase and/or at least part of the gas phase inside the mixing channels. The density value of the mixing channels is greater than 80 channels per square meter.
Abstract:
A process for treating a feedstock containing olefins of 6 carbon atoms per molecule, said olefins being either potentially etherifiable or (directly) etherifiable, wherein isomerization of a portion of the potentially etherifiable olefins is accomplished in part in an isomerization zone, in the presence of an isomerization catalyst that makes it possible to obtain an isomerization effluent which comprises in part etherifiable olefins, and in that, in part, etherification is carried out, in the presence of an etherification catalyst and at least one alcohol that has 1 to 4 carbon atoms per molecule, of a portion of etherifiable olefins that are contained in the feedstock, in a first etherification zone, and in part etherification is carried out of a portion of etherifiable olefins that are contained in said isomerization effluent, in a second etherification zone, in the presence of an etherification catalyst and at least one alcohol that has 1 to 4 carbon atoms per molecule, to optimize the production of ethers.
