Abstract:
A rotor assembly system includes a central robotic system, which itself includes a conveyor platform and a multi-axial central robot arranged on the conveyor platform. The multi-axial central robot is configured to perform a set of manufacturing processes from among a plurality of rotor manufacturing processes related to at least one rotor component. The conveyor platform is operable to move the multi-axial central robot within the manufacturing cell to transfer the at least one rotor component between one or more rotor manufacturing processes from among the plurality of rotor manufacturing processes.
Abstract:
A method of securing magnetizable inserts within cores of an electric converter includes placing an assembly of rotor cores in a transfer molding press, the magnetizable inserts being disposed within cavities of the rotor cores and the cavities of the rotor cores being in fluid communication, placing a polymer preform proximate a central portion of the assembly of rotor cores, displacing the polymer preform such that the polymer preform changes state and flows radially and then axially through each of the cavities of the rotor cores, removing the assembly of rotor cores from the transfer molding press, and removing polymer waste from the assembly of rotor cores.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for fault detection and protection in electric power systems that evaluates electromagnetic transients caused by faults. A fault can be detected using sampled data from a first monitored point in the power system. Detection of fault transients and associated characteristics, including transient direction, can also be extracted through evaluation of sample data from other monitored points in the power system. A monitoring device can evaluate whether to trip a switching device in response to the detection of the fault and based on confirmation of an indication of detection of fault transients at the other monitored points of the power system. The determination of whether to trip or activate the switching device can also be based on other factors, including the timing of receipt of an indication of the detection of the fault transients and/or an evaluation of the characteristics of the detected transients.
Abstract:
A real time thermal monitoring and prediction system (TMPS) is provided for use in monitoring and operating a transformer. The TMPS may be used to estimate a maximum loading level for the transformer over a future time period using a dynamic thermal model for the transformer and ambient temperature forecasts. The transformer may be loaded to its maximum loading level during power congestion or a service restoration process.

The active cooling system includes a forced convection apparatus operative to provide forced convection cooling. A circuit breaker system includes a power semiconductor switch and an active cooling system constructed to cool the power semiconductor switch. The active cooling system includes a forced convection apparatus configured to provide forced convection cooling. The power semiconductor switch is in contact with the active cooling system. A surge arrester is disposed adjacent to and in contact with the active cooling system. The active cooling system includes a cooling interface constructed for contact with the surge arrester and operative to provide cooling to the surge arrester. The power semiconductor switch and the surge arrester dissipate power alternatively.
Abstract:
A cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy instrument has an optical cavity with two or more cavity mirrors, one mirror of which having a hole or other aperture for injecting a light beam, and the same or another mirror of which being partially transmissive to allow exit of light to a detector. A spherical-spherical configuration with at least one astigmatic mirror or a spherical-cylindrical configuration where the spherical mirror could also be astigmatic prevents a reentrant condition wherein the injected beam would prematurely exit the cavity through the aperture. This combination substantially increases the number of passes of the injected beam through a sample volume for sensitive detection of chemical species even in less than ideal conditions including low power laser or LED sources, poor mirror reflectivity or detector noise at the wavelengths of interest, or cavity alignment issues such as vibration or temperature and pressure changes.
Abstract:
A system and method for configuring devices on a device network in communication with a router on a control network. An unconfigured device installed on the network receives a poll at a predetermined address from a router. The router receives a response to the poll from the unconfigured device, and requests identification of devices having a range of device object IDs and stores the MAC addresses of responding devices and the device object IDs. The unconfigured device is configured to have the proposed MAC address and device object ID.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for identifying faulted segment(s) in a multiphase power network may include receiving a current measurement that was measured during a fault, obtaining a set of equivalent sequence impedances for the segments, building a set of sequence bus impedance matrices, selecting a segment, calculating coefficients for the segment based on the set of equivalent sequence impedances for the segment and the sequence bus impedance matrices, calculating an estimated per unit fault distance for the segment based at least partially on the current measurement and the coefficients, identifying the segment as a potentially faulted segment if the estimated fault distance for the segment is between about zero and about one, and repeating for each of the segments the calculating coefficients, calculating an estimated per unit fault distance, and identifying as a potentially faulted segment if the estimated fault distance for the segment is between about zero and about one.
Abstract:
An apparatus to detect and measure suspended particles in a molten metal where the suspended particles have an associated noise frequency range has in addition to the electrically non-conductive barrier for immersion in the molten-metal, a device to move the molten metal through an orifice in the barrier and electrodes, a time varying excitation source that generates an AC current at a predetermined range of excitation frequency that is out of the predominant noise frequency range to generate an AC signal that is representative of the measure of the suspended particles. A detector detects and quantifies from the measurement AC signal the suspended particles. The detector can be a synchronous detector.
