Abstract: A distributed radio frequency communication system facilitates communication between wireless terminals and a core network. The system includes a group of remote radio units (RRUs). Each RRU of the group of RRUs is coupled to an antenna to communicate with at least some of the mobile terminals and includes electronic circuitry to perform at least a first portion of a first-level protocol of a radio access network (RAN) and communicate over a fronthaul link. The system also includes a baseband unit (BBU) coupled to the core network and the fronthaul link, and communicably coupled to the group of RRUs over the fronthaul link. The BBU includes electronic circuitry to assign one or more RRUs, selected from the group of RRUs, to a cluster of RRUs based on one or more parameters, and to perform at least a second-level protocol of the RAN.

Abstract: A motion sensor includes an infrared detector with a first set of detector elements and a second set of detector elements. The motion sensor also includes an optical system to direct electromagnetic energy from a first row of monitored volumes spaced at a pitch in a first direction onto the first set of detector elements and to direct electromagnetic energy from a second row of monitored volumes spaced at the pitch in the first direction onto the second set of detector elements. The second row of monitored volumes has an offset from the first set of monitored volumes in the first direction and the first row of monitored volumes and second row of monitored volumes are substantially non-overlapping.

The adaptive fronthaul protocol has provisions for adapting to conditions of the fronthaul link and radio network by changing the way data is communicated over the fronthaul link.

Abstract: A motion sensor has at least two tiers of monitored volumes that are offset from each other. Electromagnetic radiation, such as infrared light, is directed from the monitored volumes onto at least two sets of detector elements having separate outputs on a pyroelectric substrate of an infrared detector. As a warm object, such as a human or an animal, moves through the monitored volumes, the warmth from the object causes the voltage on the outputs of the infrared detector to change. The resultant waveforms are compared and if the two waveforms have a phase relationship corresponding to a critical phase angle that is based on the pitch of the monitored volumes and the offset between the tiers of monitored volumes, an animal-immune motion indication is generated.

Abstract: A lighting system includes a master lighting device, a control unit, and one or more slave lighting devices. The master lighting device includes a power input, a light emitting component, a memory device, a processor, and a network interface to communicate over a network. The memory device stores computer readable code that when executed by the processor, causes the master lighting device to receive a message that includes brightness information over the network, receive information regarding a characteristic of power received at the power input, control a brightness level of the light emitting component based on the brightness information and the information regarding the characteristic of the power, and send a message to the slave lighting devices to control their brightness level. The control unit includes a network interface send the message that includes the brightness information over the network.
