METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR VIDEO ENCODING AND DECODING BASED ON ASYMMETRIC BINARY PARTITIONING OF IMAGE BLOCKS

    摘要: Different implementations are described, particularly implementations for video encoding and decoding based on asymmetric binary partitioning of image blocks are presented. The encoding method comprises for a picture, wherein at least one component of the picture is divided into blocks of samples, partitioning a block into block partitions, wherein at least one block partition has a size equal to a positive integer different from a power of 2 in width and/or height, generating a residual by predicting the block partitions and subtracting the prediction from the block partitions, splitting the generated residual into at least two residual blocks with a size equal to a power of 2 in width and height and transforming the at least two residual blocks into transform coefficients, quantizing the transform coefficients, and entropy coding of the quantized transform coefficients. Correspondingly, the decoding method comprises receiving in a bitstream quantized transform coefficients, entropy decoding, de-quantizing and inverse transforming the transform coefficients to obtain residual blocks with a size equal to a power of 2 in width and height, merging at least two residual blocks to reconstruct a residual for a block partition having a size equal to a positive integer different from a power of 2 in width and/or height and reconstructing a block of the picture by predicting the block partitions and combining the residuals with the predicted block partitions. Ohers embodiments are presented for a block partitioning on the border of the picture and for setting maximum and/or minimum block sizes.

    摘要: A coding unit having a size multiple of three in horizontal or vertical direction is coded through one of several embodiments. In one embodiment, for some block sizes, the coding unit is coded and decoded systematically through SKIP mode. In another embodiment, the coding units can be coded in SKIP mode or with a DC coefficient. In another embodiment, an asymmetric division of a common coding unit parent is performed and transform coefficients are factorized among at least two sub-blocks to encode a coding unit. In another embodiment, a separable two dimensional transform can be applied by applying a transform over the block in one direction, and using two one-dimensional transforms on sub-blocks in the other direction to code. Methods, apparatus, and signal embodiments are provided for encoding and decoding.

    摘要: For multi-view video content represented in the MVD (Multi-view+Depth) format, the depth maps may be processed to improve the coherency therebetween. In one implementation, to process a target view based on an input view, pixels of the input view are first projected into the world coordinate system, then into the target view to form a projected view. The texture of the projected view and the texture of the target view are compared. If the difference at a pixel is small, then the depth of the target view at that pixel is adjusted, for example, replaced by the corresponding depth of the projected view. When the multi-view video content is encoded and decoded in a system, depth map processing may be applied in the pre-processing and post-processing modules to improve video compression efficiency and the rendering quality.
