摘要: A polymer blend of virgin LDPE and 25 wt. % to 65 wt. % of a post-consumer recyclate (PCR) LDPE is described. By using virgin LDPE having appropriate melt index, Eta025 and Eta100 and PCR LDPE having appropriate melt index, Eta025 and Eta100, a blend is produced that can be used to form films having a low amount of gel defects and other improved properties. Methods for producing the polymer blend, and for producing films having low amounts of gel defects, are also disclosed.

摘要: Compositions comprising post-consumer recycled (PCR) waste are described. The PCR is combined with at least one virgin resin and a propylene-based compatibilizer that enhances the blend between the PCR and virgin resin as well as improving one or more physical properties of the composition. The propylene-based compatibilizer is a reactor made thermoplastic polyolefin or a heterophasic copolymer with a semi-crystalline matrix and a rubber component. This allows for the selection of a compatibilizer that can shift the composition's physical properties based on the end use application, and provide a stronger, miscible blend.

摘要: Methods for processing LLDPE recyclates including, but not limited to, polyethylene and polypropylene and compositions therefrom are provided. LLDPE recyclate can be visbroken to improve processing characteristics and/or devolatilized to remove waste byproducts to produce processed LLDPE recyclates. Processed LLDPE recyclates are compounded with pre-consumer polyolefins to produce blend compositions having acceptable or even improved processing characteristics. Such pre-consumer polyolefins can also be visbroken to further tailor processing characteristics of such polymer blends. A combination of extruders and/or extruder zones can be used at the same or different locations for visbreaking and/or compounding of both LLDPE recyclate and/or pre-consumer polyolefins.

摘要: This disclosure provides for compatibilizer compositions that are useful in compounding polypropylenes and ethylene elastomeric copolymers for injection molding applications. The compatibilizer includes a combination of: Component A of polypropylene homopolymers or polypropylene copolymers containing small amounts of ethylene; and Component B of propylene bipolymers with ethylene and/or other α-olefin comonomers, the bipolymer having a relatively high proportion of propylene moieties, for example, 50-75% propylene. Compared to known or conventional compatibilizer formulations, the bipolymer Component B is relatively propylene rich and generally can be used in the injection molding composition in lower concentrations.

摘要: The present disclosure provides a method for crosslinking polyolefins through using a substantially-miscible, polyolefin-based, silane-crosslinking-agent carrier and related moisture-crosslinkable polyolefin-based compositions. The method is for crosslinking a first polyolefin includes the steps of: (A) selecting a second polyolefin being substantially-miscible with the first polyolefin and having particles of a morphology selected from the group consisting of powder and substantially spherical; (B) admixing the second polyolefin to the first polyolefin; (C) adsorbing a silane-crosslinking agent onto the second polyolefin, thereby rendering a substantially-miscible, polyolefin-based, silane-crosslinking-agent carrier; (D) melt blending the first polyolefin and the substantially-miscible, polyolefin-based, silane-crosslinking-agent carrier, thereby yielding a moisture-crosslinkable polyolefin-based composition; and (E) crosslinking the moisture-crosslinkable polyolefin-based composition.

The process for preparing the peroxide-modified polyethylene including the steps of: (A) preparing a first Ziegler-Natta-catalyzed polyethylene in a first reactor; (B) transferring the first Ziegler-Natta-catalyzed polyethylene from the first reactor to a second reactor; (C) admixing a first amount of an organic peroxide to the second reactor; (D) reacting the organic peroxide with a polyethylene composition made from or containing the first Ziegler-Natta-catalyzed polyethylene, thereby coupling the polyethylene components and forming the peroxide-modified polyethylene; and (E) collecting the peroxide-modified polyethylene.

摘要: Tie-layer adhesives having graft compositions for bonding to metal substrates is disclosed. The graft compositions are made up of the reaction product of a live, grafted polyolefin and an olefin elastomer. The grafted polyolefin is first made by heating a polyolefin and an unsaturated monomer. Further reaction of the live, grafted polyolefin with an olefin elastomer provides the graft composition. Grafting efficiency is boosted dramatically by the presence of the olefin elastomer and use of the additional reaction step. The graft composition, when formulated into a tie-layer adhesive provides improved bonding to metal substrates.

摘要: Disclosed is a process for making a linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) having low gels. The process comprises copolymerizing ethylene with one or more C3-10 α-olefins to produce an LLDPE resin which has a gel defect area less than 25 ppm. The copolymerization is performed in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst which comprises an MgCl2 support, a Ti(IV) complex, and a cyclic ether as an internal electron donor. The Ziegler-Natta catalyst has an Mg/Ti molar ratio greater than or equal to 7.
