Abstract:
Ballast water treatment apparatus and methods for preventing foreign aquatic invasive species form entering marine ecological zones by translocation in ship's ballast water. The apparatus includes a housing, a filter member, and UV water treatment chambers. Methods include use of a ship's fire hydrant system for moving ballast water from the ship's ballast tanks into the apparatus for filtration and treatment. In-port service vessels and dock-side service vehicles are equipped with the treatment and filtration apparatus to provided in-port or dock-side ballast water treatment services. Related methods are also provided.
Abstract:
An apparatus which inhibits the theft of equipment such as personal computers is disclosed. The equipment must have an external wall provided with a specially designed, approximately rectangular slot having preselected dimensions. An attachment mechanism includes a housing for a spindle having a first portion rotatable within the housing, a shaft extending outwardly from the housing, and a crossmember at the end of the shaft having peripheral dimensions closely conforming to the internal dimensions of the slot. An abutment mechanism also emanates from the housing, and is located on opposite sides of the shaft intermediate the housing and the crossmember. The peripheral cross-sectional dimensions of the abutment mechanism and the shaft in combination closely conform to the dimensions of the slot. The length of the shaft from the housing to the crossmember is approximately equal to the thickness of the external wall of equipment. The crossmember is aligned with the abutment mechanism so that the crossmember can be inserted through the slot with the shaft and the abutment mechanism occupying the slot. The spindle is then rotated 90° to misalign the crossmember with the slot, thereby attaching the attachment mechanism rigidly to the external wall. A cable is secured to the housing and to an immovable object so that the equipment cannot be stolen.
Abstract:
Compounds of formula (I) in which R2, X, Y, Cy, L and Lp(D)n have the meanings given in the specification, are inhibitors of the serine protease, Factor Xa and are useful in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders.
Abstract:
In accordance with the present invention, compounds that inhibit Type III protein secretion have been identified, and methods for their use provided. In one aspect of the invention, compounds useful in the inhibition of Type III protein secretion and/or in the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections, particularly Gram-negative bacterial infections, are provided. In another aspect of the invention, methods are provided for the inhibition of Type III protein secretion and/or the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections, particularly Gram-negative bacterial infections using the compounds of the invention.

Abstract:
The invention provides novel non-peptidic NPY Y2 receptor inhibitors useful in treating or preventing: anxiolytic disorders or depression; injured mammalian nerve tissue; conditions responsive to treatment through administration of a neurotrophic factor; neurological disorders; bone loss; substance related disorders; obesity; or an obesity-related disorder. Compounds of the invention are also useful in modulating endocrine functions, particularly endocrine functions controlled by the pituitary and hypothalamic glands, and are therefore useful in the treatment or prevention of inovulation and infertility.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to novel cyclohexyl derivatives, pharmaceutical compositions containing them and their use in the treatment of disorders and diseases mediated by an estrogen receptor.
Abstract:
The motor of an automotive cooling fan system is attached to a housing by either bayonet mount, screw mount, or axial-snap features on both motor and housing, as well as a cradle structure on the housing.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a series of arylsubstituted piperazines, of Formula I pharmaceutical compositions containing them and intermediates used in their manufacture. The compounds of the invention selectively inhibit binding to the &agr;-1a adrenergic receptor, a receptor which has been implicated in benign prostatic hyperplasia. As such the compounds are potentially useful in the treatment of this and other disease.
