摘要: Vehicle structures for dissipating energy associated with a collision are described herein. In one embodiment, a vehicle includes a first side support extending in a vehicle longitudinal direction, a second side support extending in the vehicle longitudinal direction and spaced apart from the first side support in a vehicle lateral direction that is transverse to the vehicle longitudinal direction, and a cross-vehicle stabilizing structure extending between the first side support and the second side support, the cross-vehicle stabilizing structure including a first joint portion coupled to the first side support, the first joint portion including a stiffness-reducing portion positioned within a perimeter of the first joint portion, a second joint portion coupled to the second side support, and a cross-vehicle stabilizer portion coupled to the first joint portion and the second joint portion.

摘要: A vehicle frame component for limiting the movement of the wheel of the vehicle toward the cab of a cab on frame vehicle including a base member welded to openings in the frame side rail and extending outwardly and located proximal the wheel structure. In one embodiment the vehicle frame component is located forward of the wheel and includes a tire puncture device to deflate the tire during an offset front impact and in a second embodiment the vehicle frame component is located rearward of the wheel. The vehicle frame component has particular utility during an offset front impact where the offset is less than approximately twenty-five percent (25%) of the width of the vehicle.

摘要: A vehicle has a front structure that includes a pair of side rails, front members, and inner braces. Each front member is coupled to a front end of one side rail and extends laterally outward at least partially into a respective outer quarter of a total width of the vehicle. In an aspect, each inner brace includes a transverse wall and a base. The transverse wall has a side edge extending longitudinally along a respective one of the side rails and a leading edge extending laterally outward from that rail. The base extends diagonally between and is coupled to a respective front member and rail. A leading edge of the base is coupled to the front member within the respective outer quarter. In an aspect, the front structure includes outer braces that surround the inner braces.

摘要: A dashboard upper panel is provided with: a front vertical wall extending substantially vertically in a vehicle top/bottom direction; a horizontal bottom wall extending substantially horizontally in a vehicle front/rear direction from the front vertical wall; a rear inclined wall extending from the horizontal bottom wall toward the rear of the vehicle and diagonally toward the top of the vehicle; a front horizontal flange extending from the front vertical wall toward the front of the vehicle; and a rear horizontal flange extending from the rear inclined wall toward the rear of the vehicle. A dashboard lower panel is provided with an inclined flange formed at an upper end of the dashboard lower panel. By joining the inclined flange to a lower portion of the rear inclined wall, the dashboard upper panel is supported by the dashboard lower panel from below at substantially the center in the vehicle front/rear direction.

In one embodiment, a vehicle includes a side support that extends between a front suspension mount and a rear suspension mount of the vehicle. The side support includes a targeted energy absorption portion that defines a high-strength region of the side support. The vehicle also includes a cab mounting bracket coupled to the side support and extending outward from the side support. The cab mounting bracket includes a rearward attachment position on the side support and the rearward attachment position of the cab mounting bracket is positioned proximate to the high-strength region of the side support. The vehicle further includes a wheel assembly that is coupled to the front suspension mount and is positioned forward of the cab mounting bracket in a vehicle longitudinal direction.

摘要: A stiffening arrangement (22) for a forward structure (10) of a motor vehicle has a mounting bracket (20) for mounting a motor vehicle radiator. A shear field (24) is connected to the mounting bracket (20) to dissipate shear forces. A right stiffening strut (28) connects the shear field (24) to a right suspension-strut dome (16) and supports the mounting bracket (20) on the right suspension-strut dome (16), and a left stiffening strut (30) connects the shear field (24) to a left suspension-strut dome (18) and supports the mounting bracket (20) on the left suspension-strut dome (18). Thus, a major part of the crumple zone of the forward structure (10) provided for a frontal crash can be utilized, so that the risk of damage to engine components in an engine bay of the forward structure (10) is reduced and vibrational comfort for the driver is improved.
