摘要: A roller bearing installation, in which one or more roller bearing assemblies (30A, 30B, 30C) are prepackaged in a housing (18) having corresponding recesses (28A, 28B, 28C) receiving each bearing assembly (30A, 30B, 30C). An angled gib plate (52A, 52B, 52C) is bedded in each recess, each gib plate (52) including an inclined section (54) mating with an inclined surface (58) on a bearing assembly cover (72) to allow a bearing depth adjustment by lengthwise adjustment of the bearing assembly (30) in its recess, enabling position adjustment of the supported structure (10) and bearing preload adjustment. Accurate alignment of the bearing assembly (30) is achieved by a ball plunger (100) urging the same against a guide surface (57) of the gib plate (52). A fixture (110) is used to precisely locate each gib plate (52A, 52B, 52C) in a recess (28) whjile a moldable bonding material (109) in which each gib plate (52) is bedded sets up. Electromagnetic coils (146, 148) are used to releasably hold each gib plate (52) on a respective locator arm (134, 136) during the process.

摘要: The present invention relates to a guidance system on a machine, especially a machine tool, consisting of a twist-resistant, vibratioin damping support body, of concrete for example, and at least one body fastened thereon or integrated therein, which is not of itself twist-resistant, and which forms the guidance ways. In order to endow such guidance ways with minimal thermal expansion and elasticity, make them very hard, give them good low-lubrication running characteristics, and enable them to be manufactured simply and very accurately, the body forming the guidance ways consists of sinterable nonmetals, especially ceramic material.

摘要: A high speed drilling system is disclosed for high speed drilling of very small holes in workpieces such as printed circuit boards. The X-Y positioning system includes air bearings to provide lift between the stationary guide beams, the crossbeam and the top table, and further includes a vacuum preloading apparatus for providing a preloading force between the table and the guide beam. The preload force dampens Z axis oscillations which can result in drill bit breakage. The top table is a lightweight honeycomb structure, whose effective rigidity is virtually that of the guide beam due to the vacuum preloading. The system includes pairs of spindles, one a conventional spindle for drilling holes larger than about 0.125 inches, and the other a high speed spindle for drilling holes in the range of about 0.003 to 0.125 inches. The high speed spindle includes a stationary spindle body carrying the stator of the rotary drive motor. Only the spindle rotor is translated along the Z axis to perform the drilling movements. The rotor is supported within the spindle body by rotary and linear air bearings, and is axially driven by a linear motor. A toolchanger loaded by clips carrying the drilling bits is mounted on the top work table, and minimizes the time required to change drilling tools. The clips minimize the manual handling of the fragile drill bits. A vacuum hold-down apparatus is employed to secure the workpieces to a drilling station.

After the fixture (50) is removed, bolts (80) are tightened to apply a compressive force on the bonding material (70) located between the vertical guideway (10) and the machine tool bed (40).

摘要: A slide (20) having conveniently removable and replaceable bearing components (28-38) with the bearing components engaging seats (50) made of resilient, low friction material. The slide is supported on ways (24, 26) by way bearing pads (28-32) and opposed adjustable bearing assemblies (34-38). The seats (50) are formed by rough machining pockets (40, 42) into slide (20), positioning the slide (20) onto the ways (24, 26), positioning tooling blocks (60) at the locations normally occupied by the bearing components (28-36), and filling the spaces between the tooling blocks and pockets with a low friction, epoxy material, thereby forming the seats (50). Any one of the bearing components (28-38) may be removed and replaced without removing the slide (20) from the ways (24, 26). Further, each bearing assembly (34, 38) is mounted on one side of a respective way with a way bearing pad (28-32) being mounted on the opposite side of the way. Moreover, each bearing assembly (34-38) includes an adjustable tapered gib (54) that is sandwiched between a seat (50) and a bearing pack (56) that engages a way (24 or 26).

摘要: A device for guiding movement of a stage, carrying thereon a semiconductor wafer, for printing in a reduced scale an integrated circuit pattern of a mask onto different portions of the semiconductor wafer through a reduction production lens, includes linear roller bearings for supporting the stage for movement in a predetermined direction, a slider and a roller for pressing a portion of the stage against the slider to thereby constrain the displacement of the stage in a direction perpendicular to the predetermined direction of movement, whereby higher accuracies of the stop position of the stage as well as higher speed of the stage movement are assured.
