    摘要: Ultrasonic transducers and methods for detecting oblique flaws in cylindrically-shaped objects using pulse-echo testing are provided. By mounting one or more transducers on a rotary tester for testing manufactured objects such as tubes and bars, offsetting each transducer horizontally from its position if it were to emit a beam that is perpendicular to the object's outer surface, and actuating the transducer so as to emit an angled beam, oblique surface flaws and internal flaws may be reliably detected without reducing inspection speed, significantly adding to transducer cross-talk, or requiring significant additional hardware or processing.

    摘要: An ultrasonic transducer incorporated into an ultrasonic inspection apparatus for examining existence of defect in a sample dipped in water comprises a transducer main part having an oscillator which projects an ultrasonic wave to the sample, receives the reflected wave from the sample and outputs the received reflected wave as an echo signal, a transmitter substrate producing a drive pulse for emitting the ultrasonic wave to the oscillator, a receiver substrate for amplifying the echo signal, a housing for containing therein both substrates electrically connected, and connecting member for electrically connecting between a signal input/output terminal and the side of the oscillator in the transducer main part, wherein, when a maximum operational frequency of the ultrasonic wave emitted from the oscillator is referred to as fmax [MHz], the connecting member is set at a length of 100/fmax [cm] or less. Even if the sample to be examined is small, a desirable defect inspection can be achieved at an excellent examination accuracy.

    摘要: In a method for controlling a tool during machining a work piece using the tool, a first measuring arrangement which has a first ultrasonic probe for emitting ultrasonic waves is used, the first measuring arrangement being arranged ahead of the tool with respect to the relative tool movement direction and being moved relative to the work piece in the relative tool movement direction. The ultrasonic waves emitted by the first ultrasonic probe are transmitted to the work piece, and are transmitted back to the first ultrasonic probe, by a first column of liquid which is created by the first measuring arrangement and situated between the first ultrasonic probe and the work piece for measurement. The measurements are used for automatically adjusting the position of the tool relative to the work piece during machining the work piece.

    摘要: A method for examining a surface of a sample is described using an atomic force scanning microscope (AFM) comprising a cantilever with a longitudinal extension along which a measuring tip is disposed, which is selectively arranged relative to the sample surface by a means for driving and whose spatial position is detected using a sensor unit. Vibration excitation is conducted at excitation amplitudes which produce inside the cantilever torsional amplitudes with maximum values which form a largely (substantively) constant plateau value despite increasing excitation amplitudes and the resonance spectra, in a range of maximum values of the torsional amplitudes, a widening of the resonance spectrum which is determinable by a plateau width. The resonance spectra, preferably the plateau value, the plateau width and/or the gradient of the respective resonance spectra are used for examining the sample.

    摘要: A method for determining properties or a thin film includes the steps of: providing a piezoelectric substrate; providing a slanted finger interdigital transducer unit that includes a transmitter port and a receiver port on the piezoelectric substrate; forming the thin film on the piezoelectric substrate between the transmitter port and the receiver port; applying an input signal to the transmitter port; and measuring a phase difference, which corresponds to the input signal, from the receiver port. Accordingly, properties of the thin film are determined based on the measured phase difference. An apparatus for realizing the method is also disclosed.

    摘要: A scanning acoustic microscope including an ultrasonic transducer and a balanced linear motor assembly is disclosed. The balanced linear motor assembly includes a counterweight that is mounted for movement along a linear path that is parallel to the first linear path on which the transducer travels. The counterweight has a mass that is generally equal to the mass of the rotor and the transducer. The counterweight is being adapted to be moved, when the scanning acoustic microscope is used to interrogate a sample, along the second linear path at the same time that the rotor and transducer are being moved along the first linear path to allow the transducer to accelerate and decelerate without creating vibration.
