A drill in which no positional shift on a drilled hole and no irregularities on an internal wall are formed. A torsion angle of a shaving discharge groove of a drill is set in the range of 30 degrees to 50 degrees. In this manner, a positional shift of a through hole to be drilled can be reduced. In addition, shavings of the drill are properly discharged, and thus, drilling is not precluded by the shavings. Therefore, a printed wiring board having excellent electric connectivity and reliability can be obtained.

A small-diameter drill for deep hole drilling is provided which is capable of inhibiting the cutting chips from getting bitten and producing a straightness for a drilled hole, thus suitable for drilling a hole having a depth (L) which is 15 or more times the diameter (D) of a drilled hole. The small-diameter drill 1 has a diameter 2 which is 1 mm or less and a drill section 5 including cutting edge(s) 3 and flute(s) 4. The length 11 of the flute 4 is at least 5 times and at most 10 times the drill diameter 2. The diameter of the drill section 5, after being reduced in diameter from the cutting edge 3 toward the rear of the drill section 5, is expanded in diameter so that the outer diameter at the end of the flute 4 becomes at least 0.9 times and at most 0.98 times the drill diameter 2. An expanded-diameter portion 10 is provided between the drill section 5 and a neck section 6 connected to a shank 7 and is expended in diameter from the outer diameter at the end 9 of the flute 4 up to 1 or less times the drill diameter 2. The diameter of the neck section 6 is smaller than the drill diameter 2, and the length 12 of the neck section 6 is 10 or more times the drill diameter 2.

The invention discloses a method for making a miniature tri-blade drill structure and a structure of the same, wherein the method includes steps of grinding a metal round post having appropriate dimensions into a raw material of a miniature drill; dividing the raw material into three equal parts, and grinding a drill body using a single grinding wheel to form three waste dismissing grooves having central lines located 120 degrees apart from one another; and grinding a tip of the raw material to form three cutting planes. A miniature tri-blade drill structure manufactured using the aforesaid method is capable of lowering production costs and effectively increasing quality of finished products.

A completely automated apparatus for verifying the identity and geometry of drill bits, re-sharpening the cutting tip of a drill bit and re-positioning a locating ring upon the shank portion of the drill bit subsequent to the re-sharpening of the cutting tip thereof. The apparatus comprises a housing having a pair of cassette trays, a pair of grinding assemblies, a pair of optical assemblies, a pair of primary cleaning assemblies, a pair of secondary cleaning assemblies, a pair of inversion assemblies, a pair of workhead assemblies, a bumping assembly, and a loader assembly attached thereto. The workhead and loader assemblies are used to transport drill bits between the cassette trays and other assemblies in a selected sequence which is controlled and coordinated by a programmable control device. The control device is electrically interfaced to each of the assemblies and allows the cutting tip re-sharpening and locating ring re-positioning processes to be conducted simultaneously on at least two drill bits.
