Abstract: The process of bonding a first workpiece to a second workpiece is disclosed comprising the steps of fabricating a sintered bonding pad formed from a matrix of randomly oriented metallic fibers. Abstract: The present invention involves a simple, disposable, manual filtration and extraction device and method of use that provides a sample directly to an analytical method. The device is capable of providing a clarified liquid ready for analysis or disposal as appropriate for the specific analyte of interest, and is capable of capturing particulate materials and allowing for further extraction of those particles directly with the device. Abstract: An apparatus and method for phase separation of two materials is disclosed. The two materials to be separated are positioned in an extraction cartridge and passed through a filter device, the filter device includes a filter disk member positioned adjacent at least one and preferably two frit members. A drying cartridge may be used to dry the separated liquid material after it leaves the extraction cartridge. Abstract: A water filter arrangement (10) for trapping gross pollutants flowing in a storm water system is provided in-line or at end-of-line of a storm water pipe. The arrangement comprises an inlet (14) and an inlet area (18) which directs incoming water (16) into a filter (20). The filter traps entrained gross pollutants and filtered water exits the filter via filter outlet (50). The outlet (50) and surrounding walls (58 and 57) are shaped to create a flow of filtered water which forms a water barrier which restrains the flow of water and gross pollutants from the inlet (14) to the outlet (52). The water barrier is located between the inlet (14) and the outlet (52) preferably closer to the outlet than the inlet. As the filter (20) becomes full and the flow of filtered water exiting the filter decreases the water barrier subsides. When the filter is completely blocked, the water barrier completely subsides and the incoming water and gross pollutants by-pass the filter (20) and flow unrestrained without head loss from the inlet (14) to the outlet (52).

Abstract: The present invention provide apparatus and method for removing agglomerates from a slurry comprising a transport fluid and particulate matter carried by the transport fluid. The present invention includes a fluid flow control unit and an agglomerate removal unit fluidly connected thereto. The fluid flow control unit provides for a reduction in the flow velocity entering the agglomerate removal unit by increasing the output cross section relative to the input cross section and by providing a dewatering door that can be opened to varying degrees to allow variable outflow of transport fluid from the fluid flow control unit. The agglomerate removal unit has at least a first screen over which the slurry flows as it exits the fluid control unit. The screen includes a plurality of apertures appropriately sized to allow the transport fluid and the particulate matter to flow therethrough but not the agglomerates. The screen is a planar grid disposed at an angle to the horizontal and has a plurality of spaced apart elongate rods to allow the passage through of the transport fluid and the particles, but not the agglomerates which are moved downwardly along the rods by the flow of the transport fluid to the lowermost end thereof into a discharge chute and from there into an appropriate waste disposal collector.
