    Abstract: A method is provided for transmitting a Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) code by a signal transmission apparatus in a multimedia system. The method includes generating the LDPC code based on a resulting parity check matrix, which is generated by performing a scaling down operation on a base parity check matrix; and transmitting the LDPC code. The scaling down operation is performed based on a scaling factor for determining a size of each permutation matrix in the resulting parity check matrix and a size of each zero matrix included in the resulting parity check matrix, and the scaling factor is determined based on a number of column blocks included in the base parity check matrix and a size of each permutation matrix included in the base parity check matrix.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for transmitting and receiving a quasi-cyclic Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) code in a multimedia communication system. In the method, a signal transmission apparatus generates a quasi-cyclic LDPC code, and transmits the quasi-cyclic LDPC code to a signal reception apparatus. The quasi-cyclic LDPC code is generated by encoding an information word vector using a child parity check matrix, generated by performing one of a scaling operation, a row separation operation, and a row merge operation on a parent parity check matrix. In the scaling operation, a size of the child parity check matrix is determined. In the row separation operation, each of rows included in the parent parity check matrix is separated. In the row merge operation, the rows included in the parent parity check matrix are merged.

The method includes transmitting a user datagram protocol (UDP)/internet protocol (IP) packet including a first message, the first message containing information about a message to be signed and transmitted, and transmitting a moving picture experts group (MPEG) media transport protocol (MMTP) packet including a second message, the second message containing information about the broadcast service and information indicating whether the information about the broadcast service is signed. The first message includes an identifier of a key used to verify a signature of the message to be transmitted and signed and an identifier of a hash algorithm used to calculate a hash value of the message to be transmitted and signed.

An embodiment of the present invention provides a method for transmitting a broadcast service by a transmitter, the method comprising the steps of: determining one forward error correction (FEC) scheme for a broadcast service among multiple FEC schemes; configuring a signaling message so as to include an identifier indicating the determined FEC scheme; and transmitting the configured signaling message.
