Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed to enhance the efficiency of available bandwidth between UEs and base stations. A UE transmits a sounding reference signal to the base station, which characterizes the uplink channel based on the SRS received and, using reciprocity, applies the channel characterization for the downlink channel. The base station may form the beam to the UE based on the uplink channel information obtained from the SRS. As the downlink channel changes the base station needs updated information to maintain its beamforming, meaning it needs a new SRS. Transmission of the SRS takes resources; to minimize this, the UE or the base station can determine a period during which the downlink channel will predictably remain coherent and set up a schedule for sending SRS. Alternatively, the UE or the base station can determine on demand that the channel is losing coherence and initiate an on demand SRS.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to techniques and apparatus for enhanced decoding, for example, by providing a multi-phase tail biting convolutional code (TBCC) decoding algorithm. An exemplary method generally includes obtaining, via a wireless medium, a codeword encoded with a TBCC encoding scheme, generating metrics for candidate paths through trellis stages of a decoder, propagating information from at least one of the trellis stages to a later trellis stage, while generating the metrics, selecting a set of the candidate paths based on the propagated information, and decoding the encoded codeword by evaluating the selected set of candidate paths based, at least in part, on the generated metrics. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are claimed and described.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that provide for generation of feedback at a code block (CB) level for a received transmission in which a transmit block (TB) includes a number of CBs. The feedback may indicate a request for a retransmission of one or more CBs, and retransmissions of the CBs may be provided at a repetition level that provides multiple repetitions of the one or more CBs. The repetition level may provide for two or more retransmissions of the one or more CBs. In some cases, the repetition level is configurable, and may be based on a number of requests for retransmission that are received. The configuration of repetition levels may be through radio resource control (RRC) signaling, downlink/uplink control information, or any combination thereof.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that provide for generation of an encoded transport block (TB) that includes a number of systematic code blocks (CBs) and a number of parity CBs. The systematic CBs may be transmitted to a receiver, and the receiver may attempt to decode the systematic CBs. In some cases, one or more parity CBs may be transmitted with the systematic CBs, and the systematic CBs may be successfully decoded even in the event that one or more of the systematic CBs are not successfully received. In some cases, a receiver may provide feedback that requests that additional CBs be transmitted to decode the systematic CBs that were received, and it is not necessary to retransmit the missing systematic CBs. In some cases, a quantized value of a number of additional CBs needed to decode the TB may be transmitted.

Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure provide for methods, apparatus, and computer software for multiple access to a channel carrying a common uplink burst transmitted by users that utilize two different modes. Specifically, a coupled mode provides for range extension for users at a cell edge, while a decoupled mode provides for user data transmissions within the common uplink burst. Multiple access between these different modes may be provided in a non-orthogonal scheme by moderating the amount of interference between the respective modes. Further, multiple access between these different modes may be provided in an orthogonal scheme by utilizing interleaved frequency division multiple access (IFDMA).

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and systems for wireless communication are provided. A method for wireless communication using a single radio air interface includes configuring a radio air interface of a first device to operate in accordance with a first variant of resource-spread multiple access technology, communicating wirelessly from a first device to a base station of a wide area network using the first variant of resource-spread multiple access technology, reconfiguring the radio air interface to operate in accordance with a second variant of resource-spread code division multiple access technology, and communicating wirelessly with a second device in a mesh network subsequent to reconfiguring the radio. The first device and the second device communicate wirelessly at power levels below a power level threshold selected to cause the base station to ignore transmissions between the first device and the second device.

Abstract: Decoding and encoding methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. One method may include receiving a codeword over a wireless channel, the codeword being encoded using a polar code, identifying a set of repeated bit locations in the received codeword, and identifying a set of bit locations of the polar code used for information bits for the encoding. The set of bit locations may be determined based at least in part on recursively partitioning bit-channels of the polar code for each stage of polarization and assigning portions of a number of the information bits to bit-channel partitions of each stage of polarization based on a mutual information transfer function of respective aggregate capacities of the bit-channel partitions. The method may also include decoding the received codeword according to the polar code to obtain an information bit vector at the set of bit locations, and other aspects and features.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) may be categorized into one or more capability categories based on its ability to generate hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) responses within a predetermined delay or slot. HARQ timing management may consider a UE capability category that is UE dependent. The UE may provide a HARQ response different (i.e., advancing or delaying HARQ timing) than the specified or default HARQ response timing of the UE's category with some limitations and constraints. A constraint is a condition in which one or more operation parameters of the UE do not satisfy or meet a predetermined level or setting.
