    摘要: Apparatus for generating a map of detectable characteristics of a disc. A scanning signal display device has a detector coupled to the intensity input thereof. The detector detects the characteristics at a location on the disc which is scanned in a spiral pattern and provides a signal representative of the detected characteristics to the display device. A signal is generated and provided to the drive inputs of the display device to cause the trace of the device to follow a spiral pattern corresponding to the scan pattern of the predetermined location.

    摘要: The invention relates to an apparatus for inspecting the side walls of transparent bottles for the detection of dirt or foreign bodies therein. The inspection is effected by projecting a plurality of images of the side walls of a bottle, as viewed from at least two different directions in plan, on to at least one integrated circuit device comprising an array of photodiodes arranged in a plurality of rows in combination with means to interrogate each diode in turn, along each row in turn, to provide a video signal comprising a sequence of electrical signals corresponding to the light energy each diode has received. The two optical paths are so folded that over part of their lengths they are parallel and vertical, thus enabling both path lengths to be varied simultaneously by a common adjustment means, thereby to shorten or lengthen the object distance to obtain the appropriate magnification over a range of bottle sizes and make full use of the potential resolution of the photodiode array.

    摘要: An apparatus for inspecting a defect in a periodic pattern on an object is provided with a laser device for projecting a laser beam toward the object. A mechanism further included in the defect inspecting apparatus rotates the object in a plane orthogonal to an optical path of the laser beam while moving in the same plane. A spatial band-pass filter is located at the backward focal plane of a lens for Fourier-transforming the laser beam including the information of the periodic pattern and a defect, the laser beam coming from the object. The band-pass filter has a spot-like area for blocking the zeroth order diffraction light transmitted through the periodic pattern a peripheral light blocking area for blocking the first and higher order diffracted light beams, and a ring-like light transmission area permitting the light beam component including the information of a defect to pass therethrough, the light transmission area being located between the spot-like area and the peripheral area. A photo-electric converter for picking up the light beam component including the defect information transmitted through the filter is located on an image forming plane where an image of the object is formed by a lens.

    摘要: This system monitors the operation of ball bearings in rotating machinery by continuously measuring the radial deflections of the outer race of these bearings using a fiber optic proximity probe. A second sensor is used to measure the rate of rotation of the machine's shaft. One of the frequency components in the signal produced by the proximity probe will be equal to the rate at which the balls in the bearing pass by the probe. The ratio of this ball pass frequency to the rotation frequency from the second probe is computed. The ratio of the peak value to the RMS value of the higher frequency noise components from the proximity probe signal is also computed. These two ratios are used to predict oncoming bearing failures and to determine if bearings have been properly installed. The component of the proximity probe output which is at the frequency of rotation of the rotor may be filtered and its phase angle may be measured to determine the angular placement of any unbalanced weight on the rotor.

    摘要: A manipulator which provides fast, accurate rotational positioning of a small sphere, such as an inertial confinement fusion target, which allows inspecting of the entire surface of the sphere. The sphere is held between two flat, flexible tips which move equal amounts in opposite directions. This provides rolling of the ball about two orthogonal axes without any overall translation. The manipulator may be controlled, for example, by an x- and y-axis driven controlled by a mini-computer which can be programmed to generate any desired scan pattern.

    摘要: Apparatus provides an incident light beam which illuminates the surface of a grooveddisc, having signal elements recorded therein in the form of a succession of spaced apart depressions, with a light spot that spans a plurality of convolutions of the groove. The structure of the grooved convolutions serves as a diffraction grating which reflects the incident light beam into a first plurality of substantially coplanar diverging beams of light. The signal elements also serve as a diffraction grating which reflects the incident light beam into a second plurality of diverging beams of light. Photodetectors, respectively positioned to intercept several of the reflected beams provide outputs corresponding to the light power in the respective reflected beams. Circuits are provided for directly deriving from the photodetector outputs respective estimations of both groove and signal element depths in the region illuminated by the light spot.

    摘要: The specification discloses an optical web inspection system for detecting imperfections in a web having a longitudinal axis and moving in a plane across an inspection area. Radiation means is disposed above the plane of the web and transverse to the longitudinal axis of the web for directing radiant energy on the web at the inspection area. A plurality of sensors are mounted transverse to the longitudinal axis of the web and above the inspection area for receiving reflected radiation from successive transverse portions of the web passing across the inspection area. The plurality of sensors generate electrical output signals representing the intensity of the reflected radiation from the successive transverse portions of the web. Circuitry for periodically summing the electrical output signals from selected ones of the sensors is provided to generate a summation signal representative of the sum of reflected radiation from selected discrete segments of a plurality of the transverse portions of the web. The system further includes circuitry for comparing at least one of the electrical output signals with the summation signal for determining whether an imperfection exists within the web.
