Abstract:
Thickener compositions, hydraulic fluid and metalworking fluid concentrates, aqueous concentrates and water-based hydraulic fluid and metalworking fluid or lubricant compositions are thickened to an oil-like viscosity by a low solids combination of thickeners. The combination of thickeners consists of at least one polyurethane and at least one dimer ester.
Abstract:
A lubricant comprising a partially defluorinated graphite fluoride obtained by exposing a dispersion of raw material graphite fluoride to electromagnetic radiation, followed by the separation of the resulting partially degraded graphite fluoride. The partially defluorinated graphite fluoride is not only excellent in lubricating properties but also has excellent compatibilities with resins, greases and oils. The excellent compatibilities of the partially defluorinated graphite fluoride are effective in preventing the unfavorable deposition of the graphite fluoride in a liquid lubricant composition and advantageously lead to improvement in the moldability of any graphite fluoride-resin composition, thereby enabling the ultimate composition to exhibit excellent lubricating properties.
Abstract:
The composite self-lubricating material according to the present invention comprises a metal matrix containing functional additives; the matrix is formed by two components, one forming shells of the functional additives, the other being located in the spaces between the shells.
Abstract:
This invention relates to organosiloxanes which have SiC-bonded ester groups and contain at least one unit of the general formula: ##EQU1## is which R represents the same or different monovalent hydrocarbon radicals having from 1 to 12 carbons atoms, which are free of aliphatic unsaturation and which may contain one ether oxygen atom; R' represents hydrogen or a methyl group (CH.sub.3) and a is O, 1 or 2. These organosiloxanes can be prepared by hydrolyzing or co-hydrolyzing silanes of the general formula:ROOCCH.sub.2 CH(COOR)CH.sub.2 CHR'CH.sub.2 Si(CH.sub.3).sub.a X.sub.3-a'where R, R' and a are the same as above and X represents the same or different hydrolyzable atoms or groups. Also, they may be prepared by the addition of a diester of allyl succinic acid and/or methallyl succinic acid to an organosiloxane containing Si-bonded hydrogen. These new organosiloxanes may be used as lubricants for inorganic and organic fibers, metal surfaces and as hydraulic fluids.
Abstract:
Air- and/or oven-drying lubricant paint compositions are disclosed which are useful for providing dry-film lubrication for substrates. The compositions comprise a binder resin dissolved in an organic solvent, optionally containing an extender, and further containing a polyalkylene wax which may be modified or unmodified. The dry-film lubricant provides a coefficient of friction which is lower, more uniform and of a narrower range than the compositions of the art.
Abstract:
High temperature grease compositions comprise 80% to 94% by weight of a base fluid that is a dialkyl ester of hydrogenated dimer acids that contain less than 8% by weight of trimer acids, 0.2% to 6% by weight of an additive system that contains antioxidant, rust-inhibiting, metal-passivating, and load-bearing components, and 5% to 20% by weight of a thickener component that comprises an oleophilic surface-modified clay and a dispersant.
Abstract:
Novel polyureas of the formula: ##STR1## wherein n is 9 to 18, m is 2 to 10, X and Y are each either ethyl, methyl or a hydrogen atom and R=aromatic, aliphatic or cycloaliphatic, are described herein. These polyureas are particularly useful as thickening agents for lubricating oils to make greases. The polyureas may be prepared by reacting the aminated products of propoxylated fatty alcohols with organic polyisocyanates. The reaction is a simple process requiring no heat. Very low levels of the resulting polyureas are required to thicken oils of lubricating viscosity into greases which have good high temperature stability.
Abstract:
Polyurea grease compositions containing the reaction product of certain diisocyanates and specified amines, particularly N,N-bis(3-amino propyl)methylamine, and having improved mechanical properties, are disclosed.
