摘要: A scalable process and device for producing a bio molecule, in particular pharmaceutical grade plasmid DNA is described. The process includes the steps of alkaline lysis, neutralization and clarification and can be further extended. For separating the lysate and the precipitate an improved floatation method is disclosed. This method is based on attachment of CO2 bubbles on the precipitate floe. The CO2 is released from a carbonate salt during or after neutralization (acidification). The method of the invention is preferably carried out in an automated continuous mode applying devices for lysis and neutralization and a novel device for completely continuous clarification (separation of floes and clarified lysate).

摘要: Provided is a method for processing a gold-bearing sulfide ore which involves maintaining the ore in a substantially oxygen free environment, preferably beginning with comminution of the ore and ending when a desired final concentrate, enriched in sulfide minerals, is obtained by flotation. In one embodiment, nitrogen gas is used to substantially prevent contact between the ore and air during comminution of the ore and during flotation operations. It is believed that oxygen gas present in air detrimentally affects the recovery of sulfide minerals in a flotation concentrate through surface oxidation of sulfide mineral particles. The use of a gas such as nitrogen can significantly reduce the potential for such surface oxidation. Additionally, gases separated from an oxygen plant may be beneficially used, with an oxygen gas stream being used, for example, for pressure oxidation of sulfide mineral materials, and with a nitrogen gas stream being used in comminution and/or flotation operations, resulting in advantageous use of a nitrogen gas by-product stream which has previously been vented to the atmosphere as waste.

摘要: A pressure screening system for processing contaminated pulp fiber including a pressure screen apparatus for separating an accepts stream of clean fiber from a rejects stream carrying contaminants, and a feed tank for supplying a pulp fiber slurry to the inlet of the pressure screen apparatus, wherein the feed tank has a flotation section for receiving the rejects stream together with air for generating a froth separating a rejects overflow of contaminants from the remainder of the feed stock for recovery of additional pulp fiber from the rejects stream. The air may be contained in the rejects stream when it enters the flotation section, or it may be introduced at or near the input to the flotation section. The feed tank with flotation section can receive the rejects streams from multiple pressure screen stages, or a separate feed tank can be used for each pressure screen stage. The improved system reduces pulp fiber losses and reduces the equipment cost and complexity of the conventional feed tank and rejects stream handling arrangement. The flotation section is preferably formed as a standpipe connected to the feed tank, or may be a separate flotation cell coupled through a pump or a valve to the feed tank.

摘要: A filtration system for water or other selected liquids that includes an ozone mixing station, a primary solids and gas separator and, if desired, a second vortex particle separator and filter system. The ozone mixing station includes a high efficiency ozone generator and a channel arrangement, such as a spiral tubular treatment coil, through which the ozone/liquid mixture passes to assure thorough mixing and provide time for effective treatment. The primary solids separator includes an offset inlet jet through which the liquid from the ozone treatment station is injected into a first circular chamber. The resulting rotating liquid vortex moves to a narrowed co-axial second circular chamber to cause heavy particles to concentrate at the outer perimeter then to a coaxial larger third circular chamber. The liquid exits through an annular outlet located around the chamber axis to prevent buoyant particles in the axial region and heavy particles at the outer periphery from passing out with the liquid. Gas collects in a cylindrical axial region with the lighter suspended particles in an annular region around the gas column. The gas phase is removed through an annular, variable, series of holes at the top of the chamber. The liquid from the solids separator may be passed to a filter system to further treat the liquid.

摘要: Apparatus for the purification of evaporated sugar solution prior to cryslization in which the evaporated sugar solution is mechanically transformed in an in-line continuous process into a homogeneous creamy mixture of sugar solution and hydrophobic particles of non-sugars attached to micron size bubbles from which the sugar solution is separated. The apparatus through which the evaporated sugar solution is passed to so transform it for purification includes, in order, an open-top pump supply tank into which the solution is discharged to revolve about an outlet in the tank so as to form a vortex in the tank outlet drawing large bubbles of air into the solution, a standpipe connecting the tank outlet to the inlet of a centrifugal pump having a high speed impeller with straight radial blades, the standpipe and supply tank having such a relationship to the pump as to provide a pump suction static head only slightly greater than the vapor pressure of the evaporated sugar solution.
