Abstract: The present disclosure provides apparatuses and methods for splitting an image into coding units. An image is divided into coding tree units (CTUs) which are hierarchically partitioned. Hierarchical partitioning includes multi-type partitioning such as binary tree or quad tree splitting. For CTUs completely within the image and CTUs on the boundary, respective multi-type partition depths are chosen. The present disclosure provides for multi-type partitioning flexibility in a boundary portion of the image.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to apparatuses and methods for determination of motion parameters (e.g. motion vectors) for motion prediction of a coding block, and is applicable to video encoding and/or decoding. The motion parameter is selected from motion parameters, which include motion parameters associated with a set of respective image samples not included in the coding tree unit, where the set of image samples are located at a predetermined position relative to an extended boundary of the coding tree unit. The apparatuses and methods of the present disclosure may facilitate reducing on-chip buffer requirements for motion prediction.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an apparatus, an encoder, a decoder and corresponding methods for prediction refinement with optical flow (PROF) for an affine coded block, in which when a plurality of optical flow decision conditions are fulfilled for the affine coded block, performing a PROF process for a current sub-block of the affine coded block to obtain refined prediction sample values of the current sub-block of the affine coded block. After the sub-block based affine motion compensation is performed, a prediction sample value of the current sample of the current sub-block is refined by adding a delta prediction value. Thus, it allows for a better trade-off between coding complexity and prediction accuracy.

Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes receiving a bitstream comprising a current picture including a sub-picture coded according to inter-prediction. A motion vector for a block of the sub-picture is determined. A clipping function is applied to sample locations in a reference block to support application of an interpolation filter when the motion vector points outside of the sub-picture and when a flag is set to indicate the sub-picture is treated as a picture. The interpolation filter is applied to results of the clipping function to obtain a predicted sample value. The block is decoded based on the predicted sample value. The block is forwarded for display as part of a decoded video sequence.
