Abstract: A system including a polymeric sheet. The polymeric sheet comprises a base sheet having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface and a multiplicity of spaced rails projecting from the first surface of the base sheet. The rails comprise a stem portion attached to and substantially upright from the first surface of the base sheet and a top portion on the distal end of the stem opposite the base sheet. The top portion comprises a first surface opposite the base sheet and a second surface facing the first surface of the base sheet. Additionally, the rails have a length greater than the width of the stems. The first surface of the base sheet, the second surface of the top portion and the surface of the stem defines a cavity with walls, and an adhesive coated on at least a portion of the cavity wall.

Abstract: A single-layer spunbonded air-filtration web including meltspun autogenously bonded electret fibers with an Actual Fiber Diameter of from 3.0 microns to 9.0 microns. The air-filtration web exhibits a mean flow pore size of from 8.0 to 19 microns and exhibits a ratio of mean flow pore size to pore size range of from 0.55 to 2.5. Also disclosed are methods of making such webs, and methods of using such webs to perform air filtration.

Abstract: Coextruded polymeric netting having a machine direction comprising: a plurality of pairs of: first segments each having first and second opposed major surfaces and a thickness, the first segments comprising first material; second segments comprising second material, wherein adjacent first segments are joined together via a second segment, wherein the second segments extend from the second major surface past the first major surface of each first adjacent segment and has a distal end, the second segments having first and second opposed major surfaces, wherein there is a gap between adjacent second segments; and a third material, different from the first and second materials on at least one of the first or second major surfaces of at least every other second segment, wherein the first segments, second segments, and third material each extend continuously for at least 5 mm in the machine direction, and wherein first and second materials of adjacent pairs are periodically bonded together in the machine direction. Uses for coextended polymeric articles described herein include fasteners.

Abstract: A polymeric netting including polymeric ribbons and polymeric strands. Each of the polymeric ribbons and strands has a length and width, with the length being the longest dimension and the width being the shortest dimension. The polymeric ribbons have a height-to-width aspect ratio of at least five to one, a major surface that is intermittently bonded to only one polymeric strand, and a height greater than the height of the one polymeric strand. An extrusion die and method useful for making the polymeric netting are also disclosed.

Abstract: A film having first segments and second segments arranged across the film's width direction is disclosed. The first and second segments are separated from each other by polymer interfaces. The first segments include a first polymeric composition and the second segments include a second polymeric composition. At least some of the second segments are layered second segments having first and second layers in the film's thickness direction, and one of the first or second layers includes a third polymeric composition different from the second polymeric composition. An extrusion die useful for making the film and a method for making the film using the extrusion die are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method of making a mechanical fastening net. The method includes providing a net having strands of polymer and open areas between the strands of polymer and molding a portion of the polymer in the strands of the net into upstanding posts to form the mechanical fastening net. A mechanical fastening net that includes a polymeric backing, a plurality of openings in the polymeric backing, and upstanding posts on at least one of the first or second major surface of the polymeric backing is also disclosed. The polymeric backing has a range of thicknesses ranging from minimum to maximum thickness, and for at least a portion of the polymeric backing, the minimum thickness of the polymeric backing is where it abuts one of the openings.
