Abstract:
Unique polyphase compositions are disclosed having, as a continuous phase a propylene polymer and as a second phase a substantially amorphous organic material selected from solid or semi-solid hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon resins. These compositions are prepared by dispersing a propylene polymer of substantially all sub-micron particle size in the second phase and fusing the polymer under controlled conditions which assure the formation of the propylene polymer into a continuous phase.
Abstract:
WHERE R IS AN ALKYLENE RADICAL CONTAINING 2 TO 10 CARBON ATOMS AND X IS AN INTEGER OF FROM ABOUT 1 TO ABOUT 10. ALSO DISCLOSED IS A PROCESS OF IMPROVING THE ADHESION OF POLYESTER MATERIAL TO VARIOUS OTHER MATERIALS USING THE AZIDOLFORMATE COMPOUNDS. IN PARTICULAR, THERE IS DISCLOSED A PROCESS OF IMPROVING THE ADHESION OF POLYESTER TIRE CORD TO RUBBER TIRE STOCK USING THE SAID AZIDOFORMATE COMPOUNDS. DISCLOSED ARE THE AZIDOFORMATES OF OMEGA-HYDROXYALKYL PHTHALATES, THEIR RELATED LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT CONDENSATION POLYMERS AND THEIR MIXTURES REPRESENTED BY THE GENERAL FORMULA
Abstract:
A process for preparing ultra-fine ammonium perchlorate particles is provided. In this process an aqueous solution of ammonium perchlorate is dispersed in an organic liquid to form a water-in-oil emulsion. The emulsion is frozen and freeze dried to produce the ultra-fine particles.
Abstract:
This invention relates to polyfunctional carbonylnitrile Noxides and their carbonyl hydroximoyl halide and carbonyl nitrolic acid precursors as new compositions of matter.
WHEREIN EACH R is a lower alkyl radical, Y is selected from the group consisting of the oxo and thioxo radicals, X is a halo radical, A is selected from the group consisting of the oxy and thio radicals, and each R'' is selected from the group consisting of the hydrogen and halo radicals. These compounds are highly toxic to southern army worm larvae.
Abstract:
Oil is removed from contaminated water by means of a fibrous structure of low denier polyolefin fibers attached to a pumping system. The polyolefin fiber structure can absorb many times its own weight of oil while absorbing little or no water. The oil is then easily removed from the fibrous structure by pumping.
Abstract:
Tetrakis(1-bicycloheptyl)chromium compounds are catalysts for the polymerization of 1-olefins when activated by the addition of an organometallic compound and/or exposure to light. The polymerization process can be carried out by using a solution of the chromium compound or by extending the chromium compound on a solid support such as silica.
Abstract:
Polyphase compositions having, as a continuous phase a propylene polymer and as a second phase a rosin or rosin derivative, are prepared by dispersing a propylene polymer of substantially all sub-micron particle size in the second phase and fusing the polymer under controlled conditions which assure the formation of the propylene polymer into a continuous phase.
Abstract:
Process, integrated with ammonia air oxidation, for the manufacture of nitric oxide of at least 99 percent purity comprising the steps of (1) effecting the ammonia oxidation, (2) maintaining maximum NO content in the oxidation effluent, and then contacting the effluent with nitric acid to convert the NO to NO2, (3) cooling the NO2 containing gas product to condense the NO2 therefrom as liquid N2O4, (4) passing the liquid N2O4 into a packed converter tower and therein at least partially vaporizing the liquid; passing resulting vaporization product upwardly through the tower packing and passing water or weak nitric acid into the tower and downwardly through the packing in countercurrent flow reaction contact with the vaporization product, and then into the zone of said vaporization and reaction contact with any unvaporized liquid, and vaporization product to convert substantially all of the initially added liquid dinitrogen tetroxide to nitric oxide gas product containing minor contaminant amounts of NO2, HNO3 and water, (5) water-scrubbing the NO2 and HNO3 contaminants from the NO gas product to form resulting water-wet NO gas product containing, on an anhydrous basis, at least 99 percent NO, and (6) dehydrating the water-wet NO gas product to form said NO of at least 99 weight percent purity. Strong nitric acid is formed in the converter tower as by-product.
Abstract:
THERE IS PROVIDED A FOAMED POLYOLEFIN PRODUCT AND PROCESS FOR THE PRODUTION THEREOF. AFTER POLYMERIZATION OF THE OLEFIN BY A LOW PRESSURE PROCESS, THE ORGANOMETALLIC CONTAINING CATALYSTS USED IN THE POLYMERIZATION PROCESS ARE NOT COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM THE POLYMER. THE CATALYSTS ARE DEACTIVATED AND, AT LEAST IN PART, FUNCTION AS NUCLEATING AGENT FOR FOAMING. ALSO A PART OF THE POLYMERIZATION SOLVENT IS LEFT IN THE POLYOLEFIN AND MAY FUNCTION, AT LEAST IN PART, AS THE BLOWING AGENT.
