Abstract:
The disclosure relates in some aspects to forbidden area procedures and connection release management for a user terminal (UT). Forbidden area-related procedures include, for example, using a special paging area code (PAC) in conjunction with a forbidden area, defining a location reporting threshold for a UT based on the proximity of the UT to a forbidden area, or using a default paging area code if a service restriction for a UT has ended. Connection release management includes, for example, a UT sending a request to cause the release of a Radio Connection that the UT no longer needs, or a UT sending a Location Indication (e.g., including a flag requesting release of a connection) to release the connection used for location reporting when a UT is done sending the location information and is going to go back to idle mode.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates in some aspects to location reporting and paging for satellite communication. In one aspect, the disclosure relates to a user terminal (UT) sending a message to report information about the UT's location. A threshold may be used to control whether (e.g., when) the UT reports its location. The location information may be used to enforce area (e.g., country) restrictions for the UT. In one aspect, the disclosure relates to forwarding paging messages between network access controllers. For example, a network access controller that is not able to page a UT may forward a paging message to another network access controller. In one aspect, the disclosure relates to a list of paging areas that indicates where a UT need not perform a paging area update.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for a user terminal (UT) to transmit data to a network controller via a satellite in a satellite system. The UT may begin transmitting, during a time period, a first portion of the data using contention-based resources of the satellite system prior to receiving a grant of scheduled return link resources of the satellite system. The UT may also transmit, on the contention-based resources, a buffer status report (BSR) during the time period. The UT may terminate data transmissions on the contention-based resources after an expiration of the time period or upon receiving the grant of scheduled return link resources. After receiving the grant, the UT may transmit a second portion of the data on the scheduled return link resources.
Abstract:
Various aspects of the disclosure relate to handoff of a user terminal in communication with a satellite network portal through a satellite. In some aspects, a satellite network portal and a user terminal use a satellite handoff information to determine when to handoff the user terminal from one cell to another and/or from one satellite to another. In some aspects, a user terminal sends capability information, location information, or other information to a satellite network portal whereby, based on this information, the satellite network portal generates the satellite handoff information and/or selects a handoff procedure for the user terminal. In some aspects, handoff of a user terminal to a different satellite involves the user terminal conducting satellite signal measurements and sending a measurement message to the satellite network portal. In some aspects, the satellite network portal generates new satellite handoff information as a result of receiving a measurement message.
Abstract:
Transport accelerator (TA) systems and methods for accelerating delivery of content to a user agent (UA) of a client device are provided according to embodiments of the present disclosure. Embodiments comprise a TA architecture implementing a connection manager (CM) and a request manager (RM). A CM of embodiments requests chunks of content from a content server, receives data in response to requesting the chunks of content, wherein the received data is missing data from a requested chunk of content, and provides a receipt acknowledgement (ACK) for the missing data. The received data, which is missing data from a requested chunk of the chunks of content, may be passed through a communication protocol stack to an application for assembly into a one or more content objects.
Abstract:
In overview, the various embodiments provide methods implemented by a processor executing a DASH client on a receiver device for determining when, in view of a change in the receiver device's resources (e.g., bandwidth, battery power, etc.), to cancel or abandon downloading the current segment at the current representation and restart download of the current segment at a different representation to meet one or more performance objectives and/or optimizations related to the change in the receiver device's resources. In various embodiments, the receiver device processor may perform a cost-benefit analysis to determine whether switching representations during the ongoing download of the current segment will benefit the performance of the receiver device, and the receiver device processor may switch representations in response to determining that switching representations would improve the performance of the receiver device.
Abstract:
Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate transmitting access point types and/or restricted association parameters using broadcast signals, such as beacons, pilot signals, etc. The type or restricted association information can be indicated by one or more intrinsic aspects of the signal, such as specified parameters. In addition, the type or information can be indicated by one or more extrinsic signal aspects, such as frequency, interval, periodicity, etc. Using this information, a mobile device can determine whether an access point implements restricted association. If so, the mobile device can request an access point or related group identifier before determining whether to establish connection therewith. The identifier can be verified against a list of accessible access points and/or groups to make the determination.

Abstract:
Various aspects of the disclosure relate to handoff of a user terminal in communication with a gateway through a satellite in a non-geosynchronous satellite communication system. In some aspects, a gateway and a user terminal use a satellite and beam transition table to determine when to handoff the user terminal from one beam to another and/or from one satellite to another. In some aspects, a user terminal sends capability information, location information, or other information to a gateway whereby, based on this information, the gateway generates a satellite and beam transition table and/or selects a handoff procedure for the user terminal. In some aspects, handoff of a user terminal to a different satellite involves the user terminal conducting satellite signal measurements and sending a measurement message to the gateway. In some aspects, the gateway generates a new satellite and beam transition table as a result of receiving a measurement message.
