Abstract: A video decoder obtains a first triangle merging index syntax element specifying a first triangle merging candidate index. The first triangle merging candidate index indicates a first triangle merging candidate of a triangular shape-based motion compensation candidate list. The video decoder may determine whether the maximum number of triangle merging candidates is greater than 2. Based on the maximum number of triangle merging candidates not being greater than 2, the video decoder may infer that a second triangle merging candidate index indicates a second triangle merging candidate of the triangular shape-based motion compensation candidate list without obtaining any syntax element specifying the second triangle merging candidate index from the bitstream, the second triangle merging candidate being different from the first triangle merging candidate.

Abstract: An example device for decoding video data includes one or more processors implemented in circuitry and configured to: decode a coding tree unit (CTU) of video data, the CTU including a luminance (luma) block and a chrominance (chroma) block, to produce a decoded luma block and a decoded chroma block; determine that a chroma sample of the decoded chroma block is on a first side of an adaptive loop filter (ALF) virtual boundary and that a co-located luma sample of the decoded luma block is on a second side of the ALF virtual boundary, the co-located luma sample being co-located with the chroma sample, the first side being different than the second side; and in response to determining that the chroma sample is on the first side and the luma sample is on the second side, disable cross-component adaptive loop filtering (CC-ALF) for the chroma sample.

Abstract: An example device for decoding video data includes a memory configured to store video data; and one or more processors configured to: decode data representing an initial motion vector for a current block of the video data, the initial motion vector having integer-motion vector difference (MVD) precision; determine a search range around a reference area identified by the initial motion vector in a reference picture; perform a template matching search process in the search range to identify a best matching region; determine error values for neighboring pixels to the best matching region; use the error values for the neighboring pixels to perform a model-based fractional-pixel motion vector refinement to derive motion vector difference values; apply at least one of the motion vector difference values to the initial motion vector to determine a refined motion vector for the current block; and decode the current block using the refined motion vector.

Abstract: A video coder performs a Most-Probable Mode (MPM) derivation process that derives one or more MPMs for a current block that is not coded using affine linear weighted intra prediction (ALWIP). As part of performing the MPM derivation process, the video coder determines whether a neighboring block of the current block is an ALWIP-coded neighboring block. Based on the neighboring block being an ALWIP-coded neighboring block, the video coder determines that a value of an intra prediction mode of the neighboring block is a value indicating a planar mode. The video coder codes the current block based on one of the MPMs for the current block.

Abstract: In an example, a method of processing video data includes splitting a current block of video data into a plurality of sub-blocks for deriving motion information of the current block, where the motion information indicates motion of the current block relative to reference video data. The method also includes deriving, separately for each respective sub-block of the plurality of sub-blocks, motion information comprising performing a motion search for a first set of reference data that corresponds to a second set of reference data outside of each respective sub-block. The method also includes decoding the plurality of sub-blocks based on the derived motion information and without decoding syntax elements representative of the motion information.
