    摘要: A wheelchair suspension system comprises a suspension assembly disposed adjacent to each wheel of the wheelchair, and attached to and interconnecting the axle of the wheels to the wheelchair frame. Each of the suspension assemblies includes a front bracket and a rear bracket, wherein the front bracket is attached to the wheelchair frame and the rear bracket is attached to the axle. Top and bottom generally L-shaped arms each are pivotally attached to each of the brackets in a diametrically opposed fashion, and an elastomeric spring is disposed between and interconnects the arms. When one or more of the wheels encounters a bump in a travel surface of the wheelchair, the arms pivot about the brackets, remain parallel to each other, and move closer together to compress the spring which absorbs a significant amount of shock caused by the bump. Conversely, when one or more of the wheels encounters a depression, the arms again pivot about the brackets, remain parallel to each other, but move farther apart to place tension on the spring which again absorbs a significant amount of shock caused by the depression. The pivoting parallel arrangement of arms and brackets enables displacement of the axle in a substantially vertical, relatively large distance when one or more of the wheels encounters an irregularity in the wheelchair travel surface, which in turn maintains stability and steering control of the wheelchair by keeping the wheels in contact with the travel surface.

    摘要: A rear suspension assembly for buses and other vehicles has a square rubber torque spring, whose particular construction and components favorably increase the load capacity of the bus, result in a reduction of maintenance time and better safety and comfort conditions during operation of the bus. The rear suspension includes an upper support and a complementary lower support to clamp the rubber torque spring and attach the spring to the vehicle frame. The upper and lower supports are united by a pair of U-shaped clamps. The U-shaped clamps extend through a lower mounting seat to fasten the spring and the upper and lower supports with a rear axle of the bus by hexagonal self-locking nuts. The assembly is joined to the bus body by a pair of suspension arms extending between the spring and a coupling mounted on the vehicle frames. The rear suspension assembly also includes a pair of adjustment levers connected to hexagonal blocks provided on each end of the square torsion spring. Brackets extend from the upper support connecting a pair of shock absorbers from the vehicle frame to the spring assembly.

    摘要: This specification discloses a resilient wheel suspension wherein a wheel is rotationally mounted upon an axle and the axle is resiliently suspended with respect to a mounting plate. The resilient suspension includes an elastomer disk which is coupled along one major surface to the axle and along the other major surface to the mounting plate. Lateral movement of the axle causes a shear to be applied in the elastomer disk. The suspension can have nonlinear characteristics by having a plurality of elastomer disks and metal disks with central openings for passing the axle and successively coupled to adjacent disks between a coupling to the axle and a coupling to the mounting plate. The size of the opening diameter increases in successive disks going from the disk adjacent to the axle to the disk adjacent to the mounting plate.

    摘要: The vehicle suspension system includes an axle structure comprising at least one axle, and a vehicle-supporting frame structure. A pair of mountings pivotally support the frame structure on the axle structure at each end of the axle. Each mounting consists of a pair of spring members, located adjacent to one end of said axle, each of which extends between a rigid portion of the axle structure and a rigid portion of the frame structure and comprises a plurality of rigid plates separated in a sandwich-type structure by blocks of resilient material secured to each adjacent plate. The axes of each pair of spring members extend transversely to the direction of travel of the vehicle and are upwardly inclined relative to each other at equal and opposite angles, and each spring member is designed to operate under compression and shear to support the frame structure, but has relatively little torsional resistance so that it operates as a pivotal support.
