Abstract: A method of manufacturing a gas tank comprises: a step (a) of preparing a liner having a hollow cylindrical shape; a step (b) of forming a first layer by winding a first fiber bundle impregnated with resin around the liner; a step (c) of forming a second layer by winding a second fiber bundle impregnated with resin around the liner with the wound first fiber bundle in such a manner that portions of the second fiber bundle overlap each other in a direction parallel to a center axis of the liner; a step (d) of causing a section where the portions of the second fiber bundle overlap each other to get into the first layer; and a step (e) of curing the resin.

Abstract: A paint roller manufacturing system includes a cover dispenser for continuously dispensing a windable width of paint roller cover fabric, a fabric supporting and advancing device for supporting the fabric and maintaining a width-wise dimension of the paint roller cover fabric as the fabric advances, a fabric coating applicator for applying a coating to the back side of the paint roller cover fabric while the fabric supporting and advancing device maintains the fabric in a width-wise dimension, and a compressing roller positioned downstream of the fabric coating applicator and configured to apply a compressive force on the coating after it has been applied to the back side of the paint roller cover fabric and while the fabric is supported by the fabric supporting and advancing device. In two-strip embodiments, first and second strip dispensers continuously dispense a first and second windable width of strip material. A guide system guides the first and second strip coming from the first and second strip dispensers to be wound about a mandrel and guides the coated paint roller cover fabric from the fabric supporting device to be wound about the first and second strips. An adhesive applicator is configured to apply adhesive on substantially all of the outer side of the first and second windable strips and positioned to apply adhesive to the outer side of the first and second windable strips upstream of a location where the coated paint roller cover fabric is wound about the first and second strips.

Abstract: A method for producing a high-pressure tank that can, when forming a reinforcement layer following a previous reinforcement layer using fiber bundles, ensure the strength of the tank by reducing disturbance of the orientation of the fiber bundles. The method is adapted to form each reinforcement layer by winding fiber bundles while holding a preset tension for each layer, and includes a winding start step of stopping rotation of the tank liner upon completion of formation of at least one of the reinforcement layers, and, at the start of forming a following reinforcement layer, winding the fiber bundles at a tension smaller than a preset tension for the following reinforcement layer while alternately repeating rotation of the tank liner in the forward direction and the reverse direction, thereby forming a winding start portion of the following reinforcement layer; and a main winding step of winding the fiber bundles at the preset tension after the winding start step, so as to complete the formation of the following reinforcement layer.

Abstract: It is possible to achieve reduction in the occurrence of tension decrease at fiber bundles in a sheet. A method of manufacturing a tank includes several steps. A feed step is carried out of feeding a sheet including aligned fiber bundles while applying tension to the sheet in the longitudinal directions of the fiber bundles. The method further includes a detection step of detecting a decreased tension part subjected to tension decrease in the sheet being fed and a tension recovery step of compensating for the tension decrease at the decreased tension part by spraying an organic solvent if the decreased tension part is detected in the detection step. The method also includes a winding step of winding the sheet having been fed on a liner.

Abstract: There is provided a manufacturing method of a tank. The manufacturing method comprises a cooling process of cooling down a resin-adhering fiber bundle that has a resin adhering to a fiber bundle; and a winding process of winding the resin-adhering fiber bundle that is cooled down by the cooling process, on a rotating liner. The cooling process cools down the resin-adhering fiber bundle to make a temperature of the resin-adhering fiber bundle that is being wound on the liner in the winding process, equal to or lower than a set temperature which is set in advance as a temperature to provide a viscosity of the resin that prevents the resin from being splashed from the resin-adhering fiber bundle by rotation of the liner in a course of winding the resin-adhering fiber bundle on the liner.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for conditioning paint roller cover fabric inline in a continuous paint roller manufacturing process. The system and method provide an inline fabric conditioning unit upstream of the point in the process that the paint roller fabric cover strip is wrapped about the outer side of the outer strip, the fabric conditioning unit including a fabric conditioning device that conditions the paint roller fabric cover strip as it is being fed towards the outer side of the outer strip. The fabric conditioning unit may be used to perforate the fabric, to remove loose fibers from the fabric side of the paint roller fabric cover, to buff the paint roller fabric, and to orient the paint roller cover fibers. The continuous paint roller manufacturing process includes steps of feeding an inner strip and an outer strip towards a mandrel, wrapping the inner strip and the outer strip about the mandrel in offset relation, applying a strip adhesive to at least a portion of an outer side of the inner strip and at least a portion of an outer side of the outer strip, feeding a paint roller fabric cover strip having a fabric side and a backing side towards the outer side of the outer strip, the fabric side comprising loose fibers and attached fibers, forming a paint roller tube by wrapping the paint roller fabric cover strip about the outer strip at a point in the process after the strip adhesive has been applied to the outer side of the outer strip such that the backing side contacts the strip adhesive, applying compression to the paint roller tube, and cutting the paint roller tubes into like lengths.

Abstract: A composite container is provided where FRP layers are formed by winding FRP around a metal liner so that the dome sections are reinforced while limiting an increase in the weight. The FRP layers include a hoop layer that covers the entirety of the cylindrical section in hoop winding, and dome section reinforcing layers that also cover as least the portions of the cylindrical section near the dome sections. In the dome section reinforcing layers, FRP are wound in helical form in such a manner that the orientation angle of the FRP over the cylindrical section relative to the direction of the axis of the liner continuously changes towards the center of the cylindrical section, and thus, the weight of FRP near the center of the cylindrical section is reduced.

Abstract: The present invention describes a method for producing a leak-tight vessel for holding a gas and/or liquid, comprising the steps of winding a heat-sealable thermoplastic barrier strip around a removable mandrel in such a way that each strip fragment overlaps with a substantially parallel strip fragment over at least a lateral overlapping distance, consolidating the overlapping strip fragments so as to form a gas and/or liquid tight layer, winding a fibrous material around the gas and/or liquid tight layer, thereby leaving an opening large enough for removing the mandrel.The invention also describes a leak-tight vessel produced in this way.

The mandrel is provided with a fortification to support the element(s) forming the transition segment against inward-directed forces while wrapping and/or bonding the element(s) to form the transition segment.

Abstract: An apparatus for forming an inflatable closing plug has a winding head rotatable around a path defining a winding plane. The winding head is arranged to dispense one or more continuous lines from a supply of line via a guide arrangement. A preform is rotationally supported on an axis at a shallow angle with respect to the winding plane such than the winding plane intersects the preform. By providing a spreading arrangement to locate the windings on the preform over a band having a width perpendicular to the winding plane, a smoother distribution of windings can be achieved.
