A rotary dynamo-electric machine, e.g. a three-phase generator or an A.C. supplied D.C. motor, has mounted on it a current converter comprising an electrically insulating housing 1, 8 containing a set of dry rectifier elements 2 in chambers 3 and a bus-bar 12, 13 to which are electrically connected like poles 7 of all the rectifier elements of which the other poles 6, disposed on the opposite side, are, by the act of mounting the converter on the machine, pressed against but not secured to, contact surfaces of mutually electrically insulated electrically conductive contact members 21, Fig. 4, not shown, also mounted on the machine and electrically connected to a winding thereof. In the embodiment shown there are two bus-bars connected to two sets of rectifiers arranged as a three-phase bridge, the connection being made by springs 14 which urge the elements 2 towards the contact members 21, and the bus-bars being connected to terminals 16. The rectifier elements 2, either controllable or non-controllable semi-conductor discs, are cooled by the members 21 which have vanes 22 preferably washed by cooling air flowing through the machine, and comprise segments screwed to the machine end shield 18. The housing 1, 8 comprises two rings riveted together.
