The present invention provides for a composition comprising a pigment, wherein the composition is suitable for coating a surface that is, or is expected to be, exposed to the sun. The pigment comprises particles that fluoresce in sunlight, thereby remaining cooler in the sun than coatings pigmented with non-fluorescent particles. The particles comprise solids that fluoresce or glow in the visible or near infrared (NIR) spectra, or that fluoresce when doped. Suitable dopants include, but are not limited to, ions of rare earths and transition metals. A coating composition includes: (i) a film-forming resin; (ii) an infrared reflective pigment; and (iii) an infrared fluorescent pigment different from the infrared reflective pigment. When the coating composition is cured to form a coating and exposed to radiation comprising fluorescence-exciting radiation, the coating has a greater effective solar reflectance (ESR) compared to the same coating exposed to the radiation comprising fluorescence-exciting radiation except without the infrared fluorescent pigment. A multi-layer coating including the coating composition, and a substrate at least partially coated with the coating composition is also disclosed. A method of reducing temperature of an article includes applying the coating composition to at least a portion of the article.

The present invention relates to a semiconductor nanocrystal-siloxane composite resin composition and a preparation method thereof, and more specifically to a semiconductor nanocrystal-siloxane composite resin composition in which semiconductor nanocrystals are dispersed and bonded to a siloxane composite resin obtained by condensation reaction of a mixture of one or more organoalkoxysilanes or organosilanediol, and a preparation method thereof. The cured product of the semiconductor nanocrystal-siloxane resin composition of the present invention can be prepared as a coating, a film, a flake, etc., and the inherent characteristics of the semiconductor nanocrystal are maintained in a high temperature and high humidity environment and the reliability of the application devices is improved.

In particular, the disclosure provides a nanocrystal having a CdTe core, a CdS coating over the core, and a ZnS core over the CdS coating, where the nanocrystal has a photoluminescence maximum between about 650 nm and 900 nm.

A sandwich structure for enhancement of photoluminescence (PL) from luminescent films and the corresponding preparation method are disclosed. The sandwich structure comprises a support, a luminescent film grown on the support, and a close-packed dielectric microsphere monolayer deposited onto the luminescent film. The microspheres have high transmittance excitation light and emitted light, respectively. The low price of dielectric microspheres is beneficial to industrial applications. The stable chemical properties of dielectric microspheres make PL enhanced in a long term. Both metal and non-metal materials can be used as the support in the sandwich structure. These features significantly improve the technique of PL enhancement for luminescent films.
