The processes used in making the cast articles include the production of a series of molds. The molds seek to replicate the size, shape, contour, and surface texture of an original object with or without modifications to the original object.

摘要： A mold (10) for molding thin resin sheets includes a center mold plate (12) and two side mold plates (14, 16) disposed on opposite sides of the center mold plate. The mold plates are oriented generally vertically and parallel to each other, and the side mold plates are narrowly spaced from the center mold plate to define a pair of generally vertical mold cavities (18, 20) on either side of the center mold plate. The side mold plates may optionally include recesses (51) in their generally planar mold surfaces (38, 40) adjacent at least one longitudinal edge of the plate, for molding thin resin sheets with integral edge flanges. The mold includes spacer strips (46, 47) for spacing the side mold plates a precise distance from the center mold plate and parallel thereto. The mold thus permits molding of thin resin sheets having precisely controlled uniform thickness.

At least one metal layer is at least partially deformable for the purpose of changing the casting cavity volume. At least one mold part has an areal intermediate layer which is composed of an elastically deformable and compressible material and against which the metal layer of the mold part is movable with build-up of a restoring force on the part of the deforming intermediate layer.
