摘要: A precision depth spindle is mounted to rotate within a cartridge but is restrained against axial movement with respect to the cartridge. The cartridge is mounted for axial sliding movement within a housing, but cannot rotate with respect to the housing. A tool chuck is fixed to one end of the spindle for movement with the spindle, the tool chuck supporting a cutting tool. A spindle stop is mounted to the tool chuck and can rotate with respect to the chuck. This allows the spindle stop to be maintained stationary while the tool chuck and the cutting tool rotate. The spindle stop is finely adjustable axially with respect to the tool chuck, thus determining the depth to which the cutting tool will enter a workpiece. The cartridge has a limited axial motion range with respect to the housing, and both the spindle and cartridge are urged toward the workpiece with respect to the housing by a suitable spring or pressure means.

摘要: A sensor for detecting the location of a hole in a surface of a workpiece. The sensor comprises a sensing head having a probe adapted to engage the portion of the workpiece surface defining a hole. A housing supports the sensing head for lateral displacement in any direction from a longitudinal Z axis of the sensor in response to engagement of the hole-defining portion by the probe. A pair of displacement conversion members are supported in the housing for independent axial displacement along the Z axis corresponding in direction and magnitude to the lateral displacement of the sensing head along X and Y lateral axes, respectively. Sensing devices are disposed to respond to the axial displacement of each of the conversion members to generate a signal indicative thereof.

摘要: Apparatus for breaking off a preselected length of an end portion of an elongated member as it is moved longitudinally along a path. The apparatus includes a pair of opposed cutters mounted on the rod ends of extensible-contractible rams at opposite sides of the path. Extension of the rams drives the cutters into opposite sides of the member. The cylinder ends of the rams are pivotally connected to a mounting frame, permitting the rams and cutters to swing freely in arcs to follow the movement of the member after the cutters are driven into its opposite sides. An actuating arm of a ram-control switch is positioned in the path of a member a preselected distance downstream from the cutters. When the actuating arm is engaged by the member, the arm is swung to an operative position which actuates the rams to drive the cutters into the sides of the member. A pusher arm connected to the actuating arm engages a side of the member downstream from the cutters and pushes it laterally of the path to aid in breaking and diverting the broken off portion to a conveyor.
