Abstract: A video processing method includes receiving a bitstream, and decoding, by a video decoder, the bitstream to generate a decoded frame. The decoded frame is a projection-based frame that has a 360-degree image/video content represented by triangular projection faces packed in a triangle-based projection layout. An omnidirectional image/video content of a viewing sphere is mapped onto the triangular projection faces via a triangle-based projection of the viewing sphere. An equator of the viewing sphere is not mapped along any side of each of the triangular projection faces.

Abstract: A projection-based frame is generated according to an omnidirectional video frame and a triangle-based projection layout. The projection-based frame has a 360-degree image content represented by triangular projection faces assembled in the triangle-based projection layout. A 360-degree image content of a viewing sphere is mapped onto the triangular projection faces via a triangle-based projection of the viewing sphere. One side of a first triangular projection face has contact with one side of a second triangular projection face, one side of a third triangular projection face has contact with another side of the second triangular projection face. One image content continuity boundary exists between one side of the first triangular projection face and one side of the second triangular projection face, and another image content continuity boundary exists between one side of the third triangular projection face and another side of the second triangular projection face.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide a method for denoising a reconstructed picture. The method can include receiving reconstructed video data corresponding to a picture, dividing the picture into current patches, forming patch groups each including a current patch and a number of reference patches that are similar to the current patch, denoising the patch groups to modify pixel values of the patch groups to create a filtered picture, and generating a reference picture based on the filtered picture for encoding or decoding a picture. The operation of denoising the patch groups includes deriving a variance of compression noise in the respective patch group based on a compression noise model. A selection of model parameters is determined based on coding unit level information.

Abstract: A method and apparatus using a single converted DV (disparity vector) from the depth data for a conversion region are disclosed. Embodiments according to the present invention receive input data and depth data associated with a conversion region of a current picture in a current dependent view. The conversion region is checked to determine whether it is partitioned into multiple motion prediction sub-blocks. If the conversion region is partitioned into multiple motion prediction sub-blocks, then a single converted DV from the depth data associated with the conversion region is determined and each of the multiple motion prediction sub-blocks of the conversion region is processed according to a first coding tool using the single converted DV. If the conversion region is not partitioned into multiple motion prediction sub-blocks, the conversion region is processed according to the first coding tool or a second coding tool using the single converted DV.

The method includes receiving input data associated with a processing block in a current picture, selecting, from a set of neighboring reconstructed samples for intra-coding pixels in the processing block, a plurality of reference samples for a pixel in the processing block based on a position of the pixel and an intra prediction mode of the processing block, determining a projection phase for the pixel based on the position of the pixel and the intra prediction mode of the processing block, determining coefficients of an interpolation filter based on the projection phase for the pixel, applying the interpolation filter with the determined coefficients on the reference samples to generate a prediction of the pixel, and encoding or decoding the pixel in the processing block using the prediction of the pixel.
