Abstract: A video decoding method includes obtaining a to-be-entropy-decoded syntax element in a current block by parsing a received bitstream, where the to-be-entropy-decoded syntax element includes a syntax element 1 or a syntax element 2 in the current block, obtaining a context model corresponding to the to-be-entropy-decoded syntax element, where both of a context model corresponding to the syntax element 1 and a context model corresponding to the syntax element 2 are determined from the same preset context model set, entropy decoding the to-be-entropy-decoded syntax element based on the context model corresponding to the to-be-entropy-decoded syntax element, and obtaining a reconstructed image of the current block based on the syntax element obtained by entropy decoding.

Abstract: A video encoder, a video decoder, and a corresponding method, where the method includes, when a plurality of preset conditions are satisfied, performing bi-directional optical flow (BDOF) processing on a current picture block to obtain a predicted sample value of the current picture block, where the plurality of preset conditions include at least a condition that a height (H) of the current picture block is greater than or equal to 8, a width (W) of the current picture block is greater than or equal to 8, and a product of W and H is greater than 128. Thus encoding/decoding complexity and prediction accuracy can be balanced to some extent.

Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes receiving a video signal partitioned into a chroma block and a first neighboring luma block. The mechanism also includes encoding prediction information for chroma samples of the chroma block into a bitstream. The prediction information for the chroma samples is determined via intra-prediction based on down-sampled neighboring luma samples. The down-sampled neighboring luma samples are generated from a single row of luma samples from the first neighboring luma block. A bitstream including the prediction information for the chroma samples is transmitted to support decoding and display of the chroma samples.

Abstract: This application provides an inter prediction method and apparatus, a video encoder, and a video decoder. The method includes: determining N target picture blocks from M picture blocks in which M neighboring locations of a current picture block are respectively located, where any two of the N target picture blocks are different, M and N are both positive integers, and M is greater than or equal to N; determining candidate motion information of the current picture block based on motion information of the N target picture blocks, and adding the candidate motion information of the current picture block to a motion information candidate list of the current picture block; and performing inter prediction on the current picture block based on the motion information candidate list. In this application, comparison operations during obtaining of the motion information candidate list can be reduced, to improve inter prediction efficiency.

Abstract: An image prediction method and device are disclosed. The method includes: obtaining a first reference unit of an image unit, where respective predicted images are obtained for the image unit and the first reference unit by using a same affine model; obtaining motion information of basic motion compensation units at two or more preset positions in the first reference unit; and obtaining motion information of a basic motion compensation unit of the image unit according to the motion information. In this way, motion information of the first reference unit using a same affine motion prediction model is reused, and a more accurate motion vector of a current image unit is obtained, improving prediction accuracy and maintaining encoding and decoding complexity, thereby improving encoding and decoding performance.

Abstract: A method of decoding a coded video bitstream includes obtaining a sequence parameter set (SPS)-level syntax element from the bitstream, wherein that the SPS-level syntax element equaling a preset value specifies that no video parameter set (VPS) is referred to by a SPS, and wherein the SPS-level syntax element being greater than the preset value specifies that the SPS refers to a VPS. Abstract: A mechanism for position dependent spatial varying transform (SVT) for video coding. A prediction block and a corresponding transformed residual block are received at a decoder. A type of spatial varying transform (SVT) employed to generate the transformed residual block is determined. A position of the SVT relative to the transformed residual block is also determined. An inverse of the SVT is applied to the transformed residual block to reconstruct a reconstructed residual block. The reconstructed residual block is then combined with the prediction block to reconstruct an image block.
