Abstract:
A multi-layer shell is configured to provide a fuel tank and a fuel tank filler neck. One layer has a low-permeation material configured to inhibit hydrocarbon permeation.
Abstract:
A nylon resin multi-layer pipe, excellent in adhesivity to a nylon resin joint, includes at least (A) a layer containing a copolymerized nylon and (B) a layer containing a nylon resin other than the copolymerized nylon of the layer (A). The surface in contact with the joint is the layer (A) containing a copolymerized nylon. An adhesion method is provided for adhering a nylon resin joint to the aforementioned nylon resin multi-layer pipe using a solvent adhesive.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for forming a tube and connector assembly. The tube is formed in a co-extrusion process to provide a multi-ply tube and the multi-ply tube is thereafter delivered to an injection die assembly where a connector is molded onto the end of the tube. The molded on connector provides a ready and efficient means of providing a connector for the tube and further encapsulates the tube end so as to preclude separation of the plies of the tube even in a heavy duty usage environment. The connector may comprise a coaxial connector in which the central axis of the connector is coaxial with the central axis of the tube end portion over which it is molded or may comprise a right angle connector in which the central axis of the connector is at a right angle to the central axis of the tube end portion over which it is molded.
Abstract:
A vessel for containing or conveying a fluid comprises a wall having at least an inner layer adapted to be adjacent to or in contact with the fluid and an outer layer, each layer being comprised of a matrix of polymeric material, the polymeric materials of the inner and outer layers being differently constituted. The two layers are bonded together and the polymeric material of the inner layer has a coefficient of shrinkage during curing which is less than the co-efficient of shrinkage of the resin material in the outer layer so that the inner layer of the wall has a post-curing residual compressive stress induced therein by the outer layer. The invention extends to a method of forming a multi-layered polymeric vessel.
Abstract:
A coextruded laminate may be formed by coextruding a linear alternating polymer of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon (a polyketone polymer) with an other thermoplastic polymer, without the use of an adhesive or tie layer, wherein the other thermoplastic polymer is polyvinylidene fluoride, nylon-6,6, or phenoxy resin.
Abstract:
Cold impact-resistant tubing especially useful as a fuel line for motor vehicles which is stable in length, has a brief thermal overload capacity, and consists of at least three layers of at least two different mutually compatible polyamides. The tubing also preferably has an internal and an external layer of impact resistance-modified polyamide, with or without a plasticizer, and a barrier between the layers of impact resistance modifier-free homopolyamide, copolyamide or blends thereof.
Abstract:
A container or conduit for compressed gas and/or cryogenic gas is constructed with a gas impermeable synthetic polymer forming a gas barrier and a structural component that provides structural integrity to the container or conduit. The structural component is associated with the barrier. The gas impermeable synthetic polymer is preferably a thermotropic liquid crystal polymer.
Abstract:
A pipe of thermosetting resin, characterized in that it comprises a layer of curable thermosetting resin enclosed between a hose-shaped inner foil and a hose-shaped outer foil, which layer in its curable state together with said two foils forms the shape of a flexible foldable hose, in which shape the pipe can be laid in place and subsequently given its final shape and is made shape permanent by curing the thermosetting resin, said layer of curable thermosetting resin being reinforced by a fabric reinforcement braided of thread systems movable relative to each other, which fabric reinforcement owing to the relative movability of the thread systems can be widened and contracted to change the diameter of the pipe in the form of a flexible hose, and said thread systems being interlocked by the thermosetting resin in its cured state.
Abstract:
A plastic pipe comprising an oxygen-impermeable casing, wherein the casing comprises a barrier layer for oxygen, and an adhesive layer adjacent to the circumferential surface of the pipe and attached to the circumferential surface by an sealed bond, wherein the casing surrounds the circumferential surface on all sides, and wherein the barrier layer is elastic, is substantially impermeable to oxygen and comprises a polyvinyl alcohol, a vinyl alcohol/ethylene copolymer, or polyacrylonitrile. Also disclosed is a process for the production of the pipe and a use of the pipe as a heating pipe.
Abstract:
According to the method of the invention there is wound, around a hollow body (1) and in substantially contiguous turns, a flexible strip (2), the latter strip being fixed onto the hollow body. The strip is of a material, the tensile limit of which is in excess of that of the material of which the hollow body (1) is made, and when wound around the hollow body, a tension is applied thereto which is sufficient for the stresses which may develop within the body and the winding of the strip (2) to reach their permissible maximum limits at substantially the same time, when the hollow body is used under pressure.
