摘要: A method for designing fiber-composite parts in which part performance and manufacturing efficiency can be traded-off against one another to provide an “optimized” design for a desired use case. In some embodiments, the method involves generating an idealized fiber map, wherein the orientation of fibers throughout the prospective part align with the anticipated load conditions throughout the part, and then modifying the idealized fiber map by various fabrication constraints to generate a process-compensated preform map.

摘要: A vehicle roof stiffener includes at least one fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) portion and at least one metal or metal alloy portion. The FRP portion includes at least one transition structure including a metal or a metal alloy. At least some of the fibers of the FRP portion are embedded in the transition structure. The metal or metal alloy portion is secured to the transition structure of the FRP portion. In an example vehicle roof stiffener, the metal portion extends parallel to a longitudinal axis of a vehicle, and the FRP portion extends transverse to the longitudinal axis. The example vehicle roof stiffener may include a front FRP portion, a rear FRP portion, and two metal side portions. The metal side portions and the FRP portions may be joined by welding the transition structures to the metal portions.

摘要: A method and mold assembly for manufacturing a rotor blade component of a wind turbine is disclosed. The mold assembly includes a mold body that is divided into a plurality of mold zones, with each mold zone having a sensor for sensing a temperature thereof. Further, a composite material schedule is provided for each of the mold zones. Thus, the method includes placing composite material onto the mold body according to the composite material schedule and supplying a resin material to each mold zone of the mold body. The method also includes implementing a cure cycle for the component that includes supplying heat to each of the mold zones, continuously receiving signals from the sensors from the mold zones, and dynamically controlling via machine learning the supplied heat to each mold zone based on the sensor signals and the composite material schedule.
