Abstract: A wearable cardioverter defibrillator (WCD) having a processor configured to receive a signal indicating a position and/or movement of the ambulatory patient while the ambulatory patient is wearing the support structure receive the ECG signal, determine from an ECG signal whether a shock criterion is met, determine a confirmation time period and/or a response time period based on the position and/or movement of the ambulatory patient, determine from the ECG signal whether the shock criterion is met after the confirmation time period has elapsed, cause the user interface to generate the shock alert signal based on the shock criterion determined after the confirmation time period has elapsed, and control the discharge circuit to discharge the stored electrical charge when a predetermined time period has elapsed after the shock alert signal.

Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting atrial tachyarrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation (AF) are disclosed. A medical system can sense a heart rate (HR) output and a hemodynamic status output. An AF detector circuit automatically determines a first detection criterion and a different second detection criterion. The first detection criterion can be more sensitive to the presence of the AF episode than the second detection criterion, and the second detection criterion can be more specific to the AF episode than the first detection criterion. The AF detector circuit detects an AF onset event using the first detection criterion and at least one of the heart rate output or the hemodynamic status output, and detects an AF termination event using the second detection criterion and at least one of the heart rate output or the hemodynamic status output.

Abstract: A system for use during administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) chest compressions on a victim is described. The system includes a chest compression monitor that includes a motion sensor configured to generate signals indicative of the victim's chest motion and a control system communicatively coupled to the chest compression monitor and configured to receive the generated signals, detect compression waveform features representative of the chest compressions based on the received signals, compare the features to a pre-determined criterion that distinguishes between a manual source of the chest compressions and a piston-based chest compression device source, determine whether the source of the chest compressions is the manual or the piston-based chest compression device source based on the comparison, and generate an output based on whether the source of the chest compressions is determined to be the manual or the piston-based chest compression device source.

Abstract: A method for analysis of cardiac rhythms, based on calculations of entropy and moments of interbeat intervals. An optimal determination of segments of data is provided that demonstrate statistical homogeneity, specifically with regard to moments and entropy. The invention also involves calculating moments and entropy on each segment with the goal of diagnosis of cardiac rhythm. More specifically, an absolute entropy measurement is calculated and provided as a continuous variable, providing dynamical information of fundamental importance in diagnosis and analysis. Through the present invention, standard histograms, thresholds, and categories can be avoided.

Abstract: A method is provided of analyzing a cardiac electrogram using a computer. In one step, a determination is made as to a plurality of cycle lengths between a plurality of activation peaks of the cardiac electrogram. In another step, a determination is made as to whether a mean of the plurality of cycle lengths meets at least one criteria. The method may be used to iteratively adjust a detection threshold level for detecting atrial fibrillation based on the cardiac electrogram.
