    摘要: A threaded joint (200) provides for metal-to-metal sealing on the ends of concentrically positioned inner and outer tubes when joining the concentric tubes to a single tube (107). A threaded coupling (105) secures the inner and outer tubes and joins both tubes to a single tube. The threaded connection leverages metal-to-metal sealing on the ends of each tube. The inner tube (102) may differ in length from the outer tube (101) and contains a single thread (211) at its for receiving the threaded coupling. Threading the coupling onto the inner tube establishes four flexing metal-to-metal seals (209A-D) between the threaded joint components. The inner and outer tubes maintain contact at the internal shoulder (104) as a result of preloading. If the tubes are of varying thicknesses, a nut (407) is placed between the internal shoulder and the threaded coupling to preserve contact between the tubes at the internal shoulder.

    摘要: Ringdown noise can be estimated and removed from a waveform captured by a downhole tool. Ringdown may be estimated by calculating a median of waveforms from a number of tool firings. The estimated ringdown may then be subtracted from a waveform currently being processed. The resulting waveform contains a more accurate representation of a true echo signal reflected from the borehole wall or formation. In some embodiments, the acoustic transducer's deterministic waveform may be learned by statistical analysis of other waveforms near in time to the presently measured waveform. In other embodiments, the deterministic waveform may be learned via previously acquired waveforms now stored in memory, or through predictive waveforms developed in laboratory testing conditions similar to those experienced downhole.

    摘要: A control module for operation of downhole well tools and apparatuses is disclosed. The control module can control multiple tools, electronics, subs, etc. based on one electronic input and optionally one hydraulic input from the wellhead or surface. The control module can transmit along selected electronic lines and optionally hydraulic lines in order to control specific apparatuses of the downhole well tools. By allowing a single electronic line from the surface or shut in to control multiple tools, total electronic complexity is reduced. A three conductor control module can control operations of up to twelve downhole tools, and a two conductor control module can control operations of up to six downhole tools, in some embodiments.

    摘要: A drill bit design generator uses drill bit metrics to generate drill bit designs with reduced 3D coupled vibration. The drill bit design generator generates an initial set of drill bit designs that are simulated in a deployed or artificial environment. Simulated drill bits according to the initial drill bit designs have gyroscopic sensors that detect the presence of 3D coupled vibration. A drill bit simulator tracks metrics such as side cutting efficiency and drilling efficiency during simulations and correlates these metrics with 3D coupled vibration. The drill bit design generator determines thresholds for these metrics using correlations with 3D coupled vibration and generates updated/new drill bit designs using the metric thresholds.

The method includes determining a single elemental decay for one chemical element of a number of chemical elements present in the subsurface formation based on the gamma ray emissions and determining at least one geophysical property of the subsurface formation based on the single elemental decay of the one chemical element.
