摘要: Methods, systems and devices are disclosed for controlling self-induced acoustic interference. In one embodiment, a first piezoelectric transducer to which a first excitation signal is applied, generates back side acoustic waves that are transmitted from a back side of the first piezoelectric transducer into a backing material layer. A second piezoelectric transducer coupled to a back side of the backing material layer generates a first calibration response to the back side acoustic waves. An interference signal profile is generated based, at least in part, on the first calibration response and may be used to filter interference signal components and/or to generate a control signal to be applied to the second piezoelectric transducer during measurement cycles.

摘要: A threaded joint (200) provides for metal-to-metal sealing on the ends of concentrically positioned inner and outer tubes when joining the concentric tubes to a single tube (107). A threaded coupling (105) secures the inner and outer tubes and joins both tubes to a single tube. The threaded connection leverages metal-to-metal sealing on the ends of each tube. The inner tube (102) may differ in length from the outer tube (101) and contains a single thread (211) at its for receiving the threaded coupling. Threading the coupling onto the inner tube establishes four flexing metal-to-metal seals (209A-D) between the threaded joint components. The inner and outer tubes maintain contact at the internal shoulder (104) as a result of preloading. If the tubes are of varying thicknesses, a nut (407) is placed between the internal shoulder and the threaded coupling to preserve contact between the tubes at the internal shoulder.

摘要: A downhole drilling system is disclosed. The downhole drilling system may include a drill bit including a first electrode and a second electrode. The downhole drilling system may also include a pulse-generating circuit coupled to the first electrode and the second electrode. A capacitor within the pulse-generating circuit may include a plurality of electrode sheets and a plurality of dielectric sheets interleaved with the plurality of electrode sheets. Each of the dielectric sheets may include a composite material including a polymer matrix formed from a polymer component and a nanoparticle component that increases the dielectric constant of the composite material above that of the polymer component.

摘要: Ringdown noise can be estimated and removed from a waveform captured by a downhole tool. Ringdown may be estimated by calculating a median of waveforms from a number of tool firings. The estimated ringdown may then be subtracted from a waveform currently being processed. The resulting waveform contains a more accurate representation of a true echo signal reflected from the borehole wall or formation. In some embodiments, the acoustic transducer's deterministic waveform may be learned by statistical analysis of other waveforms near in time to the presently measured waveform. In other embodiments, the deterministic waveform may be learned via previously acquired waveforms now stored in memory, or through predictive waveforms developed in laboratory testing conditions similar to those experienced downhole.

摘要: A control module for operation of downhole well tools and apparatuses is disclosed. The control module can control multiple tools, electronics, subs, etc. based on one electronic input and optionally one hydraulic input from the wellhead or surface. The control module can transmit along selected electronic lines and optionally hydraulic lines in order to control specific apparatuses of the downhole well tools. By allowing a single electronic line from the surface or shut in to control multiple tools, total electronic complexity is reduced. A three conductor control module can control operations of up to twelve downhole tools, and a two conductor control module can control operations of up to six downhole tools, in some embodiments.

摘要: A drill bit design generator uses drill bit metrics to generate drill bit designs with reduced 3D coupled vibration. The drill bit design generator generates an initial set of drill bit designs that are simulated in a deployed or artificial environment. Simulated drill bits according to the initial drill bit designs have gyroscopic sensors that detect the presence of 3D coupled vibration. A drill bit simulator tracks metrics such as side cutting efficiency and drilling efficiency during simulations and correlates these metrics with 3D coupled vibration. The drill bit design generator determines thresholds for these metrics using correlations with 3D coupled vibration and generates updated/new drill bit designs using the metric thresholds.

The method includes determining a single elemental decay for one chemical element of a number of chemical elements present in the subsurface formation based on the gamma ray emissions and determining at least one geophysical property of the subsurface formation based on the single elemental decay of the one chemical element.

摘要: A power condition system is disclosed for conditioning power for charging of at least one capacitive element of a pulse power electrode, where the electrical power is received from at least one of a downhole alternator or generator. The received electrical power is rectified and controlled for both voltage and current amplitude. The electrical power is then split into two parallel square wave signals. The electrical power is then transformed, using parallel high frequency high voltage transformers, to a high voltage signal. The high voltage signals are rejoined and rectified to produce a high voltage DC signal. The DC signal is smoothed at a high capacity inductor and output via a switching element to at least one capacitive element of the pulse power electrodes.

摘要: The subject disclosure provides for a mechanism implemented with neural networks through machine learning to predict wear and relative performance metrics for performing repairs on drill bits in a next repair cycle, which can improve decision making by drill bit repair model engines, drill bit design, and help reduce the cost of drill bit repairs. The machine learning mechanism includes obtaining drill bit data from different data sources and integrating the drill bit data from each of the data sources into an integrated dataset. The integrated dataset is pre-processed to filter out outliers. The filtered dataset is applied to a neural network to build a machine learning based model and extract features that indicate significant parameters affecting wear. A repair type prediction is determined with the applied machine learning based model and is provided as a signal for facilitating a drill bit operation on a cutter of the drill bit.
