Abstract: A control system of an internal combustion engine which performs diffusion combustion by compression autoignition on fuel injected in a main injection in at least a partial operating range and which performs stratified combustion by spark ignition using a spark plug on fuel injected prior to the main injection. The control system determines whether or not the diffusion combustion occurs and performs combustion by spark ignition using the spark plug on the fuel injected in the main injection when it is determined that the diffusion combustion does not occur.

Abstract: An ignition device includes a spark plug, a measurement value detector, an electrical breakdown determiner, an AC voltage applying section, and a first changing section. The measurement value detector includes primary and secondary coils, and detects at least one measurement value among an ignition coil, a primary current, a primary voltage, a secondary current, and a secondary voltage. The electrical breakdown determiner determines whether a discharge has become an electrical breakdown state based on the measurement value. The AC voltage applying section applies an AC voltage of a first predetermined frequency that causes voltage resonance to the primary coil. The first changing section changes the frequency of the AC voltage to a second predetermined frequency that can maintain the electrical breakdown state and is lower in frequency than the first predetermined frequency when it is determined that the discharge has become the electrical breakdown state.

Abstract: An ignition system for use with an engine is disclosed. The ignition system may have a pre-combustion chamber in fluid communication with a combustion chamber associated with the engine, and a fuel injection device configured to inject a fuel mixture directly into the pre-combustion chamber. The ignition system may also have a spark plug configured to ignite the fuel mixture within the pre-combustion chamber, and a controller in communication with a primary energy supply and an enhanced energy supply. The controller may be configured to direct a first current from the enhanced energy supply to the spark plug after the fuel mixture is injected into the pre-combustion chamber. The controller may also be configured to direct a second current from the primary energy supply to the spark plug just after the first current is being directed to the spark plug. The second current may have a frequency that is lower than the first current.

Abstract: A system, method, and engine control module for energy ignition management of a combustion engine. The method may be performed by the system or the engine control module. The method includes determining operating conditions of the combustion engine, setting ignition energy characteristics for a dedicated EGR cylinder and a non-dedicated EGR cylinder based on the operating conditions. The ignition energy characteristics include at least one of magnitude of energy, current, voltage, and ignition energy duration. At least one characteristic of the ignition energy characteristics for the non-dedicated EGR cylinder is different than a corresponding characteristic for the dedicated EGR cylinder. The method also includes energizing ignition aid plugs based on the ignition energy characteristics.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for an internal combustion engine having at least one combustion chamber for burning a fuel mixture and a spark plug for performing spark ignition of the fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. The spark plug includes electrodes for generating an ignition spark at a location within the combustion chamber. Furthermore, the internal combustion engine includes an adjustment device for reducing a distance between the location of the ignition spark and an edge of the combustion chamber in the case of an increase in temperature of the internal combustion engine during operation.

Abstract: There is provided a leakage detection apparatus that can accurately detect a leakage condition in an internal combustion engine having a cylinder resting function. An ignition plug provided in the combustion chamber of a cylinder is made to generate an ignition signal at least once when based on an instruction from a cylinder resting control unit, a fuel injection valve and a valve driving mechanism are stopping the operation thereof; the leakage condition of the ignition plug is detected based on an output signal generated by an ion current detection circuit at a timing other than the timing when ignition discharge is caused.
