Abstract: A spark plug assembly includes a spark plug, where the spark plug includes a high voltage connector, an insulator body, a metallic shell, and an electrical conductor at least partly disposed in the insulator body and the metallic shell. The spark plug assembly includes a detection unit having a transmitter device and a receiver device. The transmitter device is coupled to the spark plug and is electrically disposed between the high voltage connector and the electrical conductor. Further, the transmitter device is configured to draw an excitation current from the electrical conductor. The transmitter device includes an optical signal generator that is configured to generate an optical signal in response to the drawn excitation current. The receiver device is disposed in optical communication with the transmitter device and configured to receive the optical signal from the transmitter device.

Abstract: A spark plug includes a housing, a porcelain insulator, a center electrode, a ground electrode, and a prechamber-defining portion. The prechamber-defining portion has a prechamber formed therein. The prechamber-defining portion has a plurality of spray holes. At least one of the spray holes is an upstream spray hole which is arranged upstream of a plug center axis in a gas flow within a main combustion chamber and designed such that and an angle which an extension in an opening direction makes with an inner wall surface of the prechamber is selected to be larger than 90°. A spark gap is formed upstream of a plug center axis in the gas flow within the main combustion chamber.

Abstract: A cylinder head assembly includes a cylinder head having an igniter mount that forms a portion of a fireside surface of the cylinder head. The assembly further includes a sleeve abutting the igniter mount within an igniter bore in the cylinder head, such that the sleeve and the cylinder head together form an igniter cooling passage circumferential of the igniter mount, and extending axially between the sleeve and the cylinder head. Abstract: An ignition coil for an internal combustion engine according to the present embodiment includes a primary coil, a secondary coil, a center core, an outer circumferential core, an igniter, a case, a connector unit, and a relay member. The relay member electrically connects the outer circumferential core and a grounding terminal member. The relay member includes: a base portion provided along the rear surface of an engagement wall; a standing portion standing rearward of the base portion; and a curved portion that extends from a rear end of the standing portion in a vertical direction Z orthogonal to a coil axis direction X and is curved to protrude rearward. The base portion is in contact with an inner grounding terminal at one end in the vertical direction Z. The standing portion is provided further outward than the igniter in a horizontal direction Y. The curved portion is elastically deformed and is urged against a front surface of the outer circumferential core.
