    Abstract: Spark plug for igniting a combustible fuel in an internal combustion engine, wherein the spark plug has an igniter arranged at an end of the spark plug facing the combustion chamber, when the spark plug is mounted in the internal combustion engine. The spark plug includes a wall and a sealing area. The wall at least partially surrounds the igniter. The sealing area is used for sealing the combustion chamber against the environment. The wall has the sealing area located at an end of the wall, which end faces the combustion chamber when the spark plug is mounted in the internal combustion engine.

    Abstract: Provided is a spark plug with which pre-ignition of fuel gas that has flowed into an auxiliary chamber can be reduced. The spark plug is provided with: an insulator (11); a central electrode (14) disposed in the insulator; a main metal fitting (20) in which a shelf portion (23) for locking the insulator is provided; a grounding electrode (30) between the central electrode and which a spark gap (32) is provided; and a cap (40) joined to the main metal fitting by way of a melted portion (41). The cap forms an auxiliary chamber (42), and includes an injection port (45) penetrating from an inner surface (43) to an outer surface (44). There is a gap (47) extending from the auxiliary chamber to the melted portion, between a first surface (26) connecting an inner peripheral surface of the main metal fitting and an outer peripheral surface of the main metal fitting on a tip end side of the shelf portion, and a second surface (46) of the cap, connecting an inner surface and an outer surface thereof, and the gap includes an opening portion (48) which opens into the auxiliary chamber in a radial direction.

    Abstract: One example provides a center electrode for a spark plug having an axial centerline. An electrode head of a first material has an upper side, a lower side, and a head cross-sectional area in a plane perpendicular to the axial centerline, with an outer edge of the lower side of the electrode head to provide a continuous spark edge about a perimeter of the lower side of the electrode head. An electrode wire extends from the lower side of the electrode head coaxially with the axial centerline and having a wire cross-sectional area in a plane perpendicular to the axial centerline less than the head cross-sectional area. The electrode wire includes a center core of a second material, and an outer sheath of the first material disposed about the center core, the electrode head and outer sheath of the electrode wire being a contiguous piece of the first material.

    Abstract: Provided is a spark plug capable of ensuring fouling resistance with a simple configuration. An insulator includes a step portion formed on an outer circumferential surface thereof. A center electrode is arranged in an axial hole of the insulator. A cylindrical metal shell having a shelf portion formed on an inner circumferential surface thereof is arranged radially outside the insulator. The insulator further includes a front end portion located frontward of the step portion. An outer circumferential surface of the front end portion has an arithmetic average roughness of 0.5 μm or smaller in a circumferential direction. A recess is formed with a depth of 3 to 20 μm in at least part of an end surface and the outer circumferential surface of the front end portion so as to extend from the front toward the rear.

    Abstract: An electrode base material of the spark plug contains not less than 50 wt. % of Ni. A discharge member contains not less than 45 wt. % of Pt, and at least one of Ni and Rh. An intermediate member contains Pt and Ni. In the discharge member, a content of Pt is highest, and a total content of Pt, Rh, and Ni is not less than 92 wt. %. In the intermediate member, a content of one of Pt and Ni is not less than 50 wt. %, a content of Ni is higher than a content of Ni in the discharge member, and a total content of Pt, Rh, and Ni is not less than 85 wt. %. A thickness of the diffusion layer formed between the discharge member and the intermediate member is not less than 0.002 mm and not more than 0.065 mm.

    Abstract: A spark plug ground electrode assembly including a ground electrode having a ground electrode base defining a receptacle. A base flange extends about less than an entirety of the receptacle to define an open lateral end of the receptacle. The open lateral end of the receptacle is arranged to receive a ground electrode pad slid into the receptacle and onto a support surface in a direction perpendicular to a spark plug longitudinal axis.
