Described herein is a novel soil stabilization mixture comprising a mixture of soil to be stabilized, fibers and binder. The soil and the fibers are mixed together. The binder, which acts as a chemical stabilizer, is then added and mixing continues. The mixture is then applied to the soil to be stabilized and the stabilized soil is then compacted. The fibers can be recycled carpet fibers, fiber reinforced polymer, biofibers or a mixture thereof. The binder comprises Portland cement and at least one of crushed glass, metakaolin and ground blast furnace slag.

A method of manufacturing a cementitious composite including: (1) mixing an extrudable cementitious composition by first forming a fibrous mixture comprising fibers, water and a rheology modifying agent and then adding hydraulic cement; (2) extruding the extrudable cementitious composition into a green extrudate, wherein the green extrudate is characterized by being form-stable and retaining substantially a predefined cross-sectional shape; (3) removing a portion of the water by evaporation to reduce density and increase porosity; and (4) heating the green extrudate at a temperature from greater than 65° C. to less than 99° C. is disclosed. Such a process yields a cementitious composite that is suitable for use as a wood substitute. Particularly, by using higher curing temperatures for preparing the cementitious budding products, the building products have a lower bulk density and a higher flexural strength as compared to conventional products. The wood-like building products can be sawed, nailed and screwed like ordinary wood.

The present invention relates to reed composite which can be used as building material, method for manufacturing the composite, and building material using the composite. More specifically, the present invention relates to reed composite which comprises 55 to 75 wt % of reed stalk having a particle size of 40 to 180 mesh wherein its joints are removed and 25 to 45 wt % of thermoplastic polymer impregnated into fibers of the reed stalk, thereby being eco-friendly and having higher strength and no swelling. Further, reed used as raw material of the composite according to the present invention has many advantages as interior and exterior material since it has similar texture and pattern to natural wood and a higher weight than cornstalk, bagasse or rice straw which are non-wood materials. Moreover, the composite of the present invention can be used as various building materials such as interior material, exterior finishing material and landscaping material.
