Abstract:
A bulk adhesive transfer system for transferring adhesive particulate to a melter includes a bulk supply and a transfer device, which may define a hopper of the melter, a mobile bin, and/or a buffer unit. The transfer device is configured to receive unmelted adhesive particulate from the bulk supply and then be selectively docked with the melter to transfer the adhesive particulate to the melter. The bulk adhesive transfer system may also include a knife gate valve device, which includes a plurality of ports that sequentially open and close to control flow of the adhesive particulate towards the melter. The bulk adhesive transfer system simplifies refilling operations for a melter while enabling continuous operation of the melter, even when the transfer device is undocked for removal from the melter.

Abstract:
An apparatus for forming thin organic films includes a plurality of water tanks each containing water. Monomolecular films of different amphiphatic organic molecules are developed on the surface of the liquid in water tanks, respectively. A work is dipped into and drawn up from a desired water tank, by a driving device, in a direction substantially perpendicular to the liquid surface, so that the monomolecular film in the water tank is adhered on a work surface. The work is transported by a transporting device to a position above another water tank, through an area lying above the water tanks. Then, the work is dipped into and drawn up from the other water tank, by the driving device, in a direction substantially perpendicular to the monomolecular film, so that another monomolecular film is adhered on the monomolecular film already formed on the work surface.
Abstract:
A barrier for confining an area of monomolecular film on a Langmuir trough comprises a first barrier portion consisting of a transverse part and a longitudinal part and a second barrier portion connected at its ends to the ends of the first barrier portion and having two further longitudinal parts, one close to the first longitudinal part and the other further away. By altering the position of another transverse part joining the two further longitudinal parts the area enclosed is varied by changing the length of the longitudinal part close to the first longitudinal part and altering the length of the longitudinal part further away by an amount such that the sum of the two altered lengths remains constant.
Abstract:
A diffuser for use in a liquid circulation system having a tank for holding a body of liquid. The diffuser is connected to the return flow passage and provides an improved delivery of the returning liquid to the tank effectively minimizing turbulent aeration of the liquid therein. The diffuser may comprise a one-piece element having a frustoconical wall portion connected at its narrow end to the return flow passage with the wide end directing the returning liquid into the body of liquid in the tank in a nonturbulent manner. The wide end of the frustoconical wall portion may be provided with a tubular flange for further controlling the delivery of liquid into the tank. The frustoconical wall may be provided with at least one longitudinal slot which may widen inwardly toward the wide end of the frustoconical wall to provide further improved control of the liquid delivery into the tank. The diffuser may be threadedly mounted to a suitable adapter provided in the tank wall, or flange mounted to the tank wall as desired.
Abstract:
A cup includes a flow passage forming member forming a first exhaust passage, a scattered substance collection passage configured to collect a scattered substance from a substrate, and a second exhaust passage in sequence as going upwards; a joint exhaust passage connected to each of the first exhaust passage, the scattered substance collection passage, and the second exhaust passage; a first annular member included in the flow passage forming member, the scattered substance collection passage and the first exhaust passage being formed above and below the first annular member, respectively; and a communication hole provided in the flow passage forming member to allow the scattered substance collection passage and the joint exhaust passage to communicate with each other such that a pressure loss of the communication hole is large as compared to a pressure loss in a gap formed between the first annular member and the substrate.
Abstract:
In an example, a method including dispensing a liquid onto a first portion of a surface of a substrate and dispensing a solution comprising colloidal spheres onto a second portion of the surface of the substrate. The method additionally includes agitating the colloidal spheres to disperse the colloidal spheres along the first portion and the second portion of the surface of the substrate and directing air flow above the colloidal spheres inducing rotation of the colloidal spheres. In another example, a method includes positioning a retaining ring on a surface of a liquid above a substrate below the surface of the liquid and dispensing a solution comprising colloidal spheres onto the surface of the liquid within a surface area of the retaining ring. The method further includes agitating the surface of the liquid and the colloidal spheres to disperse the colloidal spheres along the surface area of the retaining ring.
Abstract:
A vaporizer includes an outer tube configured to receive a flow of heated gas and an inner tube disposed at least partially within the outer tube. The inner tube is spaced apart from the outer tube such that the flow of heated gas is channeled through an annular space therebetween. The vaporizer also includes a crucible disposed at least partially within the inner tube. The crucible is extendable and retractable relative to the inner tube and within the outer tube. The crucible is configured to hold a molten metal such that a surface area of the molten metal exposed to the flow of heated gas is adjustable based on the position of the crucible relative to the inner tube. A heater is configured to vaporize the molten material and the vapor mixes with the flow of heated gas.
Abstract:
An adaptive hot melt feed system includes a melt system, a feed system, a gas control device, a sensor, and a controller. The melt system includes a heated vessel. The feed system is configured to deliver a solid material to the vessel of the melt system for melting. The gas control device is configured to control a supply of gas provided to the feed system to drive the solid material from the feed system to the melt system. The sensor can be configured to detect an amount of material in the vessel of the melt system. The controller is in electronic communication with the gas control device and is programmed to signal the gas control device to vary the supply of gas to the feed system based on a fill metric determined by the controller.
Abstract:
A device for conveying viscous material out of a barrel-like container which has a container base and a container shell which extends upward from the container base, having a follower plate for closing off the container. The follower plate having a material outlet opening and a ventilation opening. There is a pump for conveying the viscous material through the material outlet opening, and a ventilation device for introducing compressed air through the ventilation opening, and a lowering device for lowering the follower plate in the container. A discharge valve is provided which, in a first switching position, blocks a line which leads out of the first pressure chamber, and which, in a second switching position, opens the line for the purposes of discharging pressure medium out of the first pressure chamber.
